Rvb, the self-professed basil czar speaks...

most are new to me this year, but i'm really looking forward to using the cinnamon basil...

it really does taste like cinnamon.

maybe a marinara with that and bay leaf.

Brian, I managed to lose most of mine too. I had some lovely dark basil that didn't last a week.

Then I replaced it with some regular old basil. We'll see. I have it in a planter with oregano and thyme and sage and parsley and those are doing OK, but could really use some sun. Do you go to mile 5.2 greenhouse in Eagle River? They carry lots of different herbs. Chives are king of my garden---they take over everywhere!

I have that problem with the raccoons and the next door cat. Oh those little boys sure can do some

nasty stuff. I'll always have a female cat.

I just get moose pellets on the lawn and garden. Easy enough to walk around and toss into the woods

Hi rvb - I have an account there too - I want to know how you linked your whole album...

I have sub-albums there, and if I click on one of those, and paste the url into the image url box here, it gives me an error.

I can post the individual pics, but not the whole album...

Appreciate any help you can give this non-techy type smileys/smile.gif

Ang ... this summer just does not look good for deck plants!!! more...

I have been out to the greenhouse at 5.2 mile in Eagle River. But, I did not buy there. I got mine at Alaska Mill & Feed and it was awesome! We go to Bell's too, but they really do not do well with herbs, IMHO. They do pretty well with tomatoes though. I hate to write the summer off so soon, but, it better get much better pretty quick or we are going to remember this one as a bummer.

I came up here to fight fire a long time ago. I know the weather can change, quickly, and significantly. I have my fingers crossed!

Brian, great weather for basil and all of our plants! I hope it continues. With all the light

and this warm turn in the weather, my flowers are starting to explode, finally. I had a picnic today at noon out off the Glen hiway by Eklutna in the midst of the wild irises. Lovely! We dined on aspagagus and egg wrapped in crepes and covered in hollandaise, fresh cherries and banana muffins, all the while looking over the shoulder for moose or bear. The irises are almost bloomed out, but still an incredible site.

Anchorage: sunrise 4:25am, sunset 11:40pm. that makes about 19 hours of daylight. But>>

when the sun does set, it just goes down below the horizon a bit so it doesn't get "dark", at best it is dusky dark for a few hours, then it rises again. We really can't see the stars now, it doesn't get dark enough. My grandkids are coming to visit tomorrow, and we have to put aluminum foil in their bedroom window because it is just too light for them to sleep well. Up in Barrow, where I lived for a few years, the sun is up now for 24 hours. It is really tough to sleep. The weather is clear and in the low 70s---lovely. I feel so bad for all the east coasters who have so much rain.
