Sandra's confession got me to thinking. What is your favorite cheat ingredient?

You know, the one that you use when you run short on time and you know that no one will ever know...

Mine really is manwich sauce. I puree it in the blender with chipotle and ancho. Makes awesome and spicey burrito filling with a shredded pot roast.

bacon bits. I figure bacon is so full of junk, that any more preservatives woudn't be noticeable.

And I hate the leftover smell of frying bacon lingering in my domain.

Just for us, but one thing I use is the already rolled refrigerated pie crust. And I've made

enchiladas using Jardine's tomatillo salsa and chile verde sauces. They're a bit salty, but good.

For the life of me I can't make pastry from scratch so I use a mix. The dough is very forgiving.

Whole grain pancake/waffle mix. Rice/corn/barley flours reduce gluten and make a tender

product not available with only wheat flours.

already roasted chicken from the supermarket...

it's great for salads, wraps, and other stuff that calls for pre-cooked bird.

I sneak a little Crisco into my butter pasty dough. Makes it tender. Julia says it's OK,

but I still experience self loathing.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they've started to carry a butter puff pastry. My new cheat.
