Saturday Six

1) I woke up to the sad news that one of my friends from the net passed away last night.

She was such a warm and loving person, and I can't believe she's gone. She was one of my foodie friends, and she loved everyone around her - and was never afraid to let people know how much she cared for them. She was one of a kind.

2) DH is in the cabin with his buddies from High School this weekend, so I have painted the first coat of the downstairs stairway. (DH doesn't want it to be painted, but I just *know* he'll love it once it's done. )

3) I bought chestnuts on sale yesterday so I will cook with them today. What I'll make I have yet to find out.

4) I think this weekend qualifies for a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on top. Yum!

5) Warm rose hip soup with a dollop of whipped cream on top is a good second! *LOL*

6) I am debating wether I should cook dinner for myself OR order something tonight. I'm thinking soup (home made) vs. pizza (ordered).

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Eva. Sad. My Saturday Six

to follow. I just woke up, so I still need my coffee to think.

One thing I know, I'm making hot apple pie drinks for tonight. The neighbors always come over (or we go there) after the kiddies are done trick-or-treating, and this will be just the thing! Do they do trick-or-treating in Norway, Eva?

1-Making mulled cider with citrus-flavored liquer(Tuaca? still have to get it at the store), topped with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick. Making a chutney cheese ball rolled in pecans with crackers to go with them. Nothing fancy.

2-Mac and cheese for supper tonight, with added tomatoes and peppers - quick and easy, and comfort food on a coolish October night.

3-Rainy today so probably won't get many kids - they may surprise us tho, so got 4 bags of mini-candy bars just in case. They won't go to waste/waist.

4-One more trip to the farmer's market for the season? I still haven't had a decent peach all summer, and am out of tomatoes again. I hate putting them in the refrigerator, and if I leave them out, they go bad so fast.

5-Looking for a purple bandana to complete panick-stricken son's costume.

6-Pumpkins, anyone? 'Still have 14 pie pumpkins just sitting in the front-yard garden for decoration, but their day will come soon.

My six

1. Follow up on office calls. Very busy week, spilling over into the weekend.

2. Give blood at 7:30 this a.m.

3. Paint laundry room so we can hook up the dryer.

4. Make Mexican Rice, guacamole and avocado/onion/cilantro relish for bbq tonight with friends, prior to trick or treat.

5. Do my cardio so I can have a bit of chocolate tonight!

6. Celebrate with my 13-year-old son. His flag football team from school played two games yesterday (back-to-back) in the league tournament and won the whole enchilada! Woo hoo!

Footnote: NFRC: Good news about a sports celebrity: Kurt Warner, Cardinals QB and...

...legitimate first-ballot Hall-of-Famer was at a party my son went to last night to celebrate the end of the flag football season. One of the Dads knew Mr. Warner and invited him to come to the party.

Mr. Warner was amazing! My son said he was so nice to everyone; brought his wife and kids along (well-behaved kids!) and signed every autograph imaginable. Then he played catch with all the boys for an hour (a big thrill for the guys) and did an open question-and-answer session afterward.

What a guy! It's so nice to hear of someone of his stature in the sports world being so kind.

Michael

Eva, your friend left you with good memories. What a gift. Now ...

...about those steps? Girl, you are sneakeeee!

Sorry to hear about your friend Eva.

Loved reading about you painting the stairs while your hub is out of town. Thatta girl! As far as soup goes, how about a nice clam chowder, white or red. I am craving it, I may have to make some today.

That's so nice, Michael! I can imagine how excited the kids were - and when

you say "they won the whole enchilda", since you're in Phoenix, I'm taking you literally ;o) teehee

We do Trick-or-Treating over here now. A couple of years ago

Halloween took us by storm, and the kids figured out that they could get free candy. It's become quite a big industy here, but it's mostly for kids. Though I do enjoy scaring the heck out of my friends with my plastic skeletton. *LOL*

I know, I know smileys/bigsmile.gif. But hey, they are my stairs too, know what I mean? smileys/wink.gif

My weekend six

1) Order flowers for DH's uncle that passed away yesterday. He was without a doubt my FAVORITE in-law. First time I met him he was finishing off bottling a batch of homemade cherry sparkling wine. Frozen plugs and sticky wine were flying everywhere. Only dilema - it's a memorial at the church so I am thinking not to order flowers for the nieces and nephews. No funeral, no burial. Anyone know the correct etiquette for this?

2) Clean - I've been lazy this week

3) Thinking about what I can make to send in a cooler when DH goes up there Tuesday. Desserts work but I also want to make some comfort foods.

4) Farmers market - dying for some roasted butternut squash, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, etc. Coworker showed me recipe for cauliflower & leek au gratin that she wants. Also - sweet potato or pumpkin pancakes, bread or something sounds good.

5) Must make this prune cake recipe a coworker gave me that has been in her family for generations. Been promising it a while. Think I'll at least stew the prunes today to get ready.

6) No trick or treaters for us - we're too far off the road although it makes for a nice scary walk up the gravel drive with the woods, leaves crunching under your feet, etc. And I have REAL giant spider webs!!!

What a great story about Kurt Warner!! My nephew is a huge Cardinals fan.....

I'll have to pass this along to him. I have always admired Mr. Warner for his play and his life off the field. There was a story about his family in the paper during Super Bowl week. When he and his family are out to dinner they always pick another family dining and tell the waitress they are picking up their check and to please keep it anonymous. During Super Bowl week they picked up the tab for 2 families wearing Steeler stuff! He said his kids love doing this!

Awww, what a nice guy

I heard that he met his wife while he was working as a cashier/bagger, and finally one day he had asked her out to dinner. She said she couldn't possibly go out to dinner because she had 3 kids she had to take care of (I think one of them may have even been disabled?) to which he said, "No problem, bring them along!" My heart just melted when I heard that.
