Sharing. We spent the last several months clearing out the backyard and building an earth oven

I'm turning green here,Jo! (And not because tomorrow is the 17th!)

What a wonderful oven. My daughters have fond memories of baking bread with their grandfather in his oven. He was a foreman, and once when he was working on building a road out in the sticks, he built an oven there as well, just for fun. He used to cook chicken marinated in wine in the residual heat from the bread, so bread-making day was always party day. We'd help with the bread-making, the whole family would descend on the hot loaves while the chicken cooked, then we'd eat chicken and sangria.

I showed the pictures to DH (hint, hint), but he just commented that you must be Italian and wandered off.

Great job! I know you will enjoy it.

What a cool story. The residual heat thing is what I am planning on. But with my first attempt

the bread came out pale and the chicken I put in had to be rescued after an hour and put in the kitchen oven. Either I didn't get the oven hot enough or it's still too damp to retain the heat for hours.

Tell DH I am only half Italian, so anyone can do this!

We weren't too aware of the building next door until we cleared out Gilligan's jungle

and had the remaining trees trimmed. It's very exposed now, but the trees are growing back.

Brilliant (I'm typing with one eye so bear with me (I just wrote *bare with me*

and wow, was that a slip of the fingers. Ain't nobody seeing this body.)

Lovely, absolutely lovely.

It reminds me very much of the kivas in New Mexico. Will you be baking Navaho bread in them?

I've never had Navaho bread. Do you have a recipe? I'm glad you were able to see the pics.

Every drop! (Not really, and for the record, I started collecting the bottles in summer smileys/wink.gif

These are in a local restaurant here and I stood under it to analyze the details.

If you know someone who can shape tubing, it's just a circle for the neck diameter, 90-degree bend, then a long piece the length of the bottle and another ring at the top to hold the base in place. The ring at the top is tacked to a larger ring the diameter of the chandelier. There are three chains holding it up and a single 6' bulb hanging in the middle.
