Not a movie but a Korean TV series: Jang Geum (pronouned Go-MA). Food plays an important role
throughout -- the importance to health and happiness of what you eat, the risk of death from same. The story follows the rise of the (real) 15th-century woman who became the first and only female royal physician in Korea. She starts out in the royal kitchens, and there's lots of Iron Chef-life cooking photography, and discussion of the medical and spiritual benefits of various foodstuffs. There are intense cook-offs to decide who will be Head Kitchen Lady. There are poisonings via food, and royals are healed via food. There's all kinds of family and palace intrigue centered around food. The series sparked a whole revival of interest in traditional Korean cuisine and herbal medicine.
We got hooked and watched all 54 episodes over last winter. It's a bit too soap-opera-ish in parts, but fun.
