So what were your menus for the weekend? I'm following Richard's lead. I'll go first

A special birthday dinner for four with a little help from the Cooking Channel, Jacques Pepin and my

great Auntie Annie:

Sun-dried tomatoes stuffed with anchovies and capers (David Rocco)
Deep Fried Ricotta-stuffed Squash Blossoms (Gabriele Corcos)

Fish in Escabeche

Jacques Pepin's Mustard-crusted chicken (my Jacques' favorite chicken.)
Auntie Annie's Eggplant Parmesan
Cucumber Salad with Dill

Crostata di Ricotta (Lemon-Ricotta pie) (David Rocco).

I'll be happy to share any recipes.

I didn't cook much over the weekend, but did all day today &

will do some more on Thursday when I'm off. My sister has really struggled since her honey died in June. She is 5'5 and probably doesn't weigh 100 pounds. She is a teacher and starts back to school on Thursday. I am going up there this weekend and as a surprise I am taking lots of things I think she'll eat and will only have to thaw/heat up. She really likes soup. So far today I made White Bean Soup, Curried Coconut Butternut Squash (found that here - I'm not even wild about butternut but it is wonderful), Asian Chicken Broth so she can just add some frozen potstickers or noodles or whatever she wants. Thursday when I'm off again I'm going to make Silky Cauliflower Soup, Cheddar Scallion Scones, Batter Bread & those granola bars that have been posted recently that sound so good (and caloric) Hopefully this will make it easier for her to take care of herself as the new school year starts.

My s-i-l had friends from England here and requested that I make the dinner he loves most and has

told them about.

Very easy and fulfilling

Soup - chickpea, spinach, pasta
Lasagne - I made 3 13x9 size pans
Israeli-Arab salad
Tiramisu.

Coming up this weekend - Mexican by my daughter.

Friend visiting, lots of quick eats out. Only thing I cooked: Israeli Couscous and Cucumber Salad.

Very good, very fresh, and I still have a ton left over. Other things consumed this weekend: red bean bubble tea, bomboloni with caramel and chocolate sauces, summer-vegetable frittata, very good burger at a French cafe, kale salad with sesame seeds and strawberries, and ratatouille.

In my defense, we did a LOT of walking. smileys/wink.gif

This weekend, I am a guest...

Visiting an old friend in Lexington and we'll be hitting all of the antiques stores, our favorite mom & pop southern-fried breakfast dives, the fabulous Lexington Farmer's Market to stock up on supplies, genteel Kentucky-style southern cuisine for dinners, and our German friends have invited us for a proper German dinner featuring Rinderrouladen with all the trimmings!

It can include almost anything. But it should include cucumbers, tomatoes,

as a base, radishes, onions, sometimes lettuce usually olives. The thing is everything is chopped very finely into small pieces. Dressing is lemon juice and olive oil and often mint.

It is our basic salad and the one served in almost every restaurant here. Fresh, there is nothing more delicious.

Outside gluttony with houseguests

Last weekend I cooked for three days for a food photography workshop, so no fun dinner party stuff. This weekend we have friends coming to town, and are planning on some of our gluttonous local friends joining us. Fortunately, the weather is supposed to not suck, which is nice in seattle, so we're planning on doing as much dining al fresco as possible smileys/smile.gif

I'm planning on making Lambgasms (my favorite lamb burgers ever, with a ground lamb and merguez sausage mixture, crisped pancetta discs, goat cheese aioli, oven-roasted tomatoes and caramelized onions. Also, the Banh Xeo I linked to earlier, my favorite baked beans recipe (which is more pork than beans--we joke that it's really pork and bean. Singular. LOL), a cantaloupe and parm cold salad with mint, and either a cold asian noodle salad or pad thai. And many, many cocktails and bottles of wine, naturally.

My mom never made beef tenderloin for me smileys/frown.gif Can you share the Parmesan Chicken recipe?

That was a family favorite in our house too, though my mom's version was 10,000 calories per serving. No lettuce!

Sauerbraten?

Richard, do you have a favorite Sauerbraten recipe? I LOOOOOVE that dish, and while I wont make it during our 5 minutes of summer, I'd love to file it away for when the weather starts to suck again.

In seattle, that probably means I'll be making it tomorrow smileys/wink.gif

Benne-encrusted grouper at Sapphire Grill (why, oh why do I have to leave FL to get good fish???)

Plus we had the calamari appetizer and 2.5 cocktails each and--I know I've earned my own corner table in Hell for this--but the grilled fois gras with hot tiny angel biscuits, smear of lemon curd, mini-scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and whole candied hybiscus was Worth. Every. Calorie and Every. Associated. Moment. of. Guilt.
