Some good tips here: 24 Essential Kitchen Tricks and Tips

I have a KA that I really like, it makes short work of pureeing soups in the pot. Not essential

in my kitchen, but very handy, and easy to clean.

It has 9 speeds, and the push button to operate is easy to press and hold. It works quickly - I've found for most things I need to lift the leading edge of the blender up a bit as I push it through the food, so it can pull things into the blade more efficiently.

I use it mostly for soups and pureeing whole canned tomatoes for sauce.

Don't use mine anymore - always have a mess to clean up

Please! I start with the best of intentions. Plan out how I'm going to hold the stick, the right depth container, the proper consistency ingredients but every time - EVERY time - the thing gets away from me. Sometimes its the stick, sometimes the container, sometimes the ingredients, but I have never been successful. My multiple piece set is currently sitting on the counter awaiting the "move/Craigslist" designation - timely post smileys/wink.gif Colleen

Ok, Colleen, Karen and I will just go sit in the Immersion Blender Challenged Corner...

This morning I watched Guy Fieri, who I'd never once ever watched and now I seriously covet his kitchen*, use an Immersion Blender just like I'd used it. In a fairly small shallow pan, I sat back and cringed waiting for the inevitable and you know what? Not one splatter. I rewound my DVR and watched again...he did exactly what I did, but with very different results. What the heck?!

Ok ladies, we're gonna drink wine instead now, ok? I'm pouring.

*Now that I've seen another episode feel I need to say - not his NASCAR kitchen.

Even exposing those whirring blades the tiniest bit will cause catastrophe.

Imagine lifting a boat motor a bit out of the water - it's just inevitable. Make sure you have enough depth of liquid and it won't be a problem...just takes a little practice. I really love mine and have been in other kitchens where I wished they had one.

I have the same Cuisinart model and have done that...the message to release the darn button

Doesn't always get from my brain down my arm either. Too funny smileys/smile.gif

Ha, yes...though it's not even that...

it was also how uneven the results were and how long you have to stand there holding down the deadman's switch button. A real actual pain if you have hand issues.

When I puree my tomato soup for example, I don't want to be eating it and find lone chunks in it.

Additional Tip: also use bench scraper to smooth cake icing...

I have metal "smoother" so never bought a bench scraper, but I'd bet you could use the bench scraper to smooth icing on a turntable like I use my smoother thingy.

I can't imagine why anyone would need 9 speeds. Hi and lo works for me. They made your's too fussy

Agreed. On that subject. My friend's washing machine looks like it could go to outer space! Options
