SOS: Rec for Smierkase cake - an old Baltimore treat - dad's coming for thanksgiving...

Verzeihen Sie mir bitte...

I thought you could read German, sorry!

Quick, down, and dirty, but this will get you through:

Puderzucker is powdered sugar
Speisestärke is cornstarch
Vanillezucker is vanillla sugar, or sub 1 tsp vanilla in with the egg, beaten together if you don't have it.
Eier is egg
Mehl is flour (all purpose)

Mix the butter, p. sugar, starch, and vanilla sugar in a mixing bowl, but don't beat until it's foamy (don't overbeat).

Stir in the egg. (optionally add a drop or two of lemon extract if desired)

Sift the flour over and combine.

Put batter in a pastry bag with a large star tip. Pipe out rings on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Makes about 30.

Bake in the middle of the oven at 350F for 13-14 minutes, or until golden brown. The middle must remain light (don't overbake).

Dust with powdered sugar.

thanks richard and lol. i sing german and can speak it...

from the page almost as well as though i knew what the hell i were saying.

You're welcome, and something I forgot

is that it specifies a #10 star tip. Not sure if they use the same sizes as we do, but just use a large star tip. You can do these in any shape you want, but the rings are traditional.
