Superbowl.... I don't think I saw a thread. What's on the menu?

A similar ham roll has been a staple/favorite of our family for years.

One iteration of it uses grated onion, butter and poppy seeds to spread on the opened up roll.
Another uses brown sugar, mustard and a bit of cloves to spread on the roll.
My original recipe used Pepperidge Farm Party rolls that come in a sheet of 20 and are small, 2 bite rolls which is really nice. Hawaiian makes a larger "sandwich"/slider which is good too.

Ha! That was my laugh for the am! We are not sports people, but love the concept of family

gathering around the tv. We will binge watch something. But family room will be filled with snacks, and I feel I need to tell the kids the names of the teams and colors, so they are not left out of the discussions tomorrow at school.

What a great idea. We are having a big family here the end of May and I am collecting

recipes to make while they are here. This will definitely be one of them.

You mean you guys can buy "Hawaiian Bread" in your stores?

Huh. Of course it is everywhere here although most that buy it are visitors instead of residents- it is just a version of Portuguese Sweet Bread. I made it once to see if homemade was better than store-bought but I didn't think so at the time. I am not a big fan of it as I am not so fond of sweet bread but I do like the idea of that sticky slider sandwich. It would be lovely and messy. I might try it. I like lovely and messy.

Here is a cool, short video which shows how to cut them. There can be so many

ways to do these. Great for a group! I've seen videos for scrambled eggs, with cheese and ham, chicken and marinara sauce, with provolone cheese, philly cheese steak....so fun!

Cathy, they are sinful. So easy to make ahead and hold for parties

I found a recipe for the Hawaiian Sweet Bread that I made over Christmas. (it included lots of sugar, butter, and pineapple juice). And while it didn't taste like the King's Hawaiian (much sturdier for one thing), the last pieces of the loaves were being fought over.

Huh. Didn't know they had a factory on the Mainland.

Interesting that they talk about their heritage on the Big Island but the photo they show is of Bali Hai on the North Shore of Kauai (15 min from me- eat your hearts out smileys/smile.gif

It's in Gardena, CA. Many years ago I used to drive by it every morning. The smell was heavenly.
