tasteless pie crust

That's the way I feel too! But some people. . .

swear by Crisco. It is just too bland for me for a pie crust.

 
the best pie crusts use animal fats

and some butter for flavor. Suet also makes a great crust as well as a great Chistmas Puddin'. Growing up as I did, the pies were frequent and nearly flying off the fruit trees in season, and they were all 100% lard in those days.
