The 5 Food Products I'm Thowing out for New Years...

1. The French meat pie from Thanksgiving that I froze. What was I thinking?

2. Green Giant microwaveable-bag veggies (they are horrid). I was trying to get off easy.

3. Liquid Smoke - one little teeny drop too much ruins everything.

4. Those crystalized sugary pastel things in plastic containers that you sprinkle on cookies. Ugh.

5. Bread. I am a "bread-freezer". I have every kind of roll or bread you can imagine in my freezer. For some reason, I think that I'll use it someday. Sometimes I do, most times I just buy or make a fresh loaf.

I had some of those crystalized sugary pastel things in my baking cupboard too. I

dipped pretzel rods in chocolate, sprinkled with the pastel things and sold them for a dollar each at a recent bake sale.

We sold out! No accounting for taste.

I make dried bread crumbs from the assorted leftover rolls, buns, and various

breads I accumulate in the freezer. If the pieces are large, I slice them and lay out on baking sheets. Bake at 200 or less degrees until nice and dry, then pulverize in a food processor. You can use a blender, also. Package and freeze for breading meats or using as a binder. It makes me feel so virtuous and even from the frozen bread, they taste better and fresher than purchased bread crumbs, imo.

Glad you told me about the micro veggies. A lady in line at the grocery store

told me they were awesome. I thought I would buy some for lunches. I have hesitated because I could not imagine them being as good as fresh veggies. Again, trying to take the easy way out!
