The dangers of living alone... Almost choked on a sandwich

Heather, when I lived in SF in late 1976-1978, I used to go to a small homemade ice cream shop

on Potrero Hill. Can't remember the name of it, and I doubt if it's there anymore, but they made the BEST ice cream! I always got one flavor, chocolate chocolate chip - it was soooo good, I never tried any of the others!
I miss all the great food in SF, even a plain salad tasted so fresh and delicious there.

I grew up on Potrero Hill and also went to that ice cream shop, if it was the one at

18th and Missouri Streets you're thinking of. I lived about 4 blocks away. Used to catch the bus across the street from that shop to go to high school each day. The shop isn't there anymore.(

Small world, huh?! What if we were there at the same time. ;o)

Did you ever eat at Goat Hill Pizza a block away? I've had some amazing pizzas there in the past.

Goat Hill Pizza is the best, and they deliver!!! I lived for years a block away from the original

Swensons.... sometimes I would just have ice cream for dinner!!

Yeah, we might have been neighbors - I lived in the Potrero Hill area then. I don't know

exactly where the shop was - I just remember going a short way up the hill from where I lived, which was a pretty lousy area, mostly warehouses, and near the docks. Anyway, it was one of the few shops around there - There was a Safeway nearby, across the street.
Unfortunately, I never tried Goat Hill pizza.
I remember a great Italian restaurant I went to called Vanessi's - it was on Broadway or something - I think North Beach?, and there might have been a Limelight bookstore around there? The restaurant, of course, has been closed for a long time now.
Found this article on it:

Okay, you guys are a bad influence on me, after thinking of Goat Hill Pizza I had to go order one

for dinner!

Can't wait till my delivery time! I'll post a photo for your vicarious enjoyment....

I so love my time visiting San Fransico, could never afford to live there. A few months back, I woke

with an awful pain in my right back, just above waist level.
Well we have had so much info on women's heart attacks. So, got my phone, bottle of aspirin and went online. Search showed it could be kidney infection, so drank a bunch of water? Also said it could be pulled muscle.

Went back to bed, it freakin' hurt to turn over.
Wasn't too concerned about kidney thing--no other signs, or heart attack--still alive.

Swedish Hospital in Seattle has an amazing "nurse hotline" where they ask you a kazillion questions to determine if you need to see the doc. They narrowed it down to the muscle thing and told me to see doc if it wasn't better in a few days.

Then remembered a dumba** lifting thing I had done.

Yes, living alone has it's ups and downs, have done it 35+ years now.

(((((((Heather)))),

Nan

I've just e-mailed the link to my daughter...

...she has cerebral palsy and choked on a large marshmallow about a week ago. I was so glad I was home and it just took 2 attempts at the Heimlich to dislodge it.

Glad you're OK, Heather!!!!
