The Gourmet Cookbook

Has anyone made any of the recipes from this book?

I know it was notorious when it came out for the pale

yellow headers that are invisible to most eyes, but I've

made a couple things over the years and they've all

been uniformly superlative and wonderful. I just tried

another recipe from it, and once again, total slam dunk

(the Coffee-Bourbon Barbeque Sauce I used as one of

the sauces for pulled pork).

I was just wondering if anyone else has been trying the

recipes and your results are turning out like mine. I

am determined to start using and exploring this book

more with these kind of results. So if anyone has any

standouts that they've tried, I'd love to hear about your

favorites.

It took critical reviews due to the yellow type used for the Recipe Titles making it difficult to

read.

I have it and used it with some regularity.

I bought it shortly after it was published and before I started getting most of my recipes off of the internet. I don't recall any flops or that I had difficulty reading the print.

I bought it--haven't used it. I searched for several basic recipes

and didn't find them. Haven't pulled it off the shelf since.

The Gourmet cookbook isn't...

a complete "soup to nuts" compendium of cooking, like Joy of Cooking. It was a three-year synthesis to cull the best of the tens of thousands of Gourmet's 60 years of recipes.

Everything I've made from this book has been superlative and outstanding. I was just wondering if others had been using it and if they'd uncovered any gems.

I'm planning to spend a lot more time with this book.

Thanks.

Someone, I think Sandi in Hawaii, posted that the first edition would be replaced if requested. I

did so and received another one. It has sort of orange titles and is much easier to read.

I've been hanging on to it for my next bridal shower gift, but if I decide to get rid of it -

it'll be yours. smileys/smile.gif

I would like to do that, if someone wouldn't mind posting the recipes?

I don't have the cookbook. I am trying not to buy any new cookbooks. I really don't use them much anymore.

I bet you can find it at your local library! Also, I believe the index is available on Amazon

and many/all the recipes are on Epicurious. Doable options, for sure!
