There's a message from Pat on yahoo.com. She said she left with her cat and a toothbrush and probab

You might want to edit your emails addresses in the above post...

to break apart the addresses because spam robots will be quick to snatch them and direct tons spam your way.

You can substitute the "@" and "." symbols from your email with words - for example (AT) (DOT) - i.e support (at) mysite (dot) com.

Ditto, posting a snail mail address...you might want to post when you have it for folks to PM you who want it. Gosh I sure hope Pat and her home are ok.

I rec'd an email from her last night. Unfortunately, she did lose everything, but she and

her family are safe. What a heartbreak. She also mentioned that the thoughts, prayers and good wishes from her friends here have meant so much to her.

Very sad. Let me know if you learn how we can help.

I've actually done this a lot with another community

What we've found works best/fast for cash is if the person (Pat) to have a PayPal account email, then hopefully a PayPal debit card for easy access. (Once in an emergency when someone didn't have PayPal we had to get someone's bank acct # and make a deposit, but most folks would not want to give that out.)

As an alternate we've gotten someone nearby that collects $ via PayPal and meets up in person to hand over the donations. Typically this is how we've done it. This way someone can't shy away from it and folks indiv giving amounts aren't revealed.

If we want to send her something other than cash, (here's hoping she has a house at her address) maybe gift certificates for food/drink, gift cards to Target/JCP/etc (she'll need undies!) a de-stress massage?

How horrible! I wish I could send some of the rain we are getting...

It has rained all week here and we have gotten way more than our share. What can we do to help?? I have no idea what kind of services are being offered to the people who have lost their homes.

Pat's latest post on Y! an hr ago...

"News is not good, but we are ok. Recovery teams are being authorized but burned areas are still too hot. I keep thinking about the funny squirrel that hung out on our patio. Love you guyz!"

If folks want, I can post my PayPal info to donate and get it to Pat...

If there is interest let me know and I'll start a new thread for it.
