Well, buy the small candy canes now while you can get them. Other hints below>>>

I used chocolate chips melted with a bit of canola oil. I smashed the starlight mints in a Ziplock bag. I suggest using a freezer bag (I didn't but should have) Make sure the canes are the same length, and can lie flat. Use waxed paper. We opened the separately sealed canes in plastic with a large straight pin (like in corsage pin). If it is at all humid, the canes get sticky. I used a very small spoon, my daughter's baby spoon, and a toothpick to fill the canes to the edges and into the point. I also sifted the crushed mints through a med sieve so not to have big chunks and sprinkled on with fingers. That's all I can remember.
