Things I like now that I didn't like then...

my mother made me sit at the table for hours in front of my plate of carrots, but I was as stubborn then as I am now, and I wouldn't eat them. She finally let me go free.

I love carrots now, but you can't force a kid to like something that just turns their stomach.

Scrambled Eggs. When I was a kid in Philadelphia (are you listening, Sandy?)....(more)....

I used to sit at the breakfast table and just
stare at my scrambled eggs, until my mother
would finally say "alright, go to school, but
you'll eat them when you come home for lunch!".

When I came home for lunch, the eggs would
still be sitting on the dining room table,
but my mother had gone back to bed, and I
would throw away the eggs and make myself
a PB&J or a fluffer-nutter.

This went on for years, until she finally
accepted the fact that I was just not going
to eat my scrambled eggs, and I started
getting cereal for breakfast.

Nowadays, I make scrambled eggs all the time,
and I'll even order them in restaurants.

Cheese...

My mom only bought american cheese and would sometimes torture me & my family with cheese pudding for dinner. did not try cheese again until I moved to England & met my husband. Now I love it (except I still can't do american & velveeta).

In my experience, you cannot force them, but you can bribe them (smile),

and who would have thunk it, they like it!

Joe, I woulda traded my youngest for you!

She wouldn't eat ANYTHING unless it included creamy peanut butter... I have to confess, I even got her to eat eggs by making an omelet with peanut butter and jelly folded in - YUCK!

Now she eats everything and even makes her own sushi. Go figure.

Spinach!! That is until I was a teen and introduced to spinach with cream cheese....

it was how all us kids grew to love spinach. Just steamed spinach with a bit of butter and a glob of Philly cream cheese melted and stirred in. Some salt or garlic salt. We couldn't get enough of it. That, of course, led to just plain spinach with butter and salt. And beet greens which I would give anything to find in the stores again...they disappeared long ago.

I'm with you Joe - I ate everything, even...

stinky limberger cheese - just held my nose and the taste wasn't so bad.

I'm not 'picky' - I'll try anything, but just more discerning about the quality/tastes of foods?

So I'm not the only one. Missy, I agree, there's almost nothing I won't eat if it's good.

I get fussier about quality, not about any particular food.

True. We had a rule that they had to eat ONE bite of everyone on their plate...

I always insisted they had to at least try it. Sometimes they were surprised that it really DIDN'T taste like it looked smileys/smile.gif
