ISO: TMJ is acting up. ISO: soups please? I know it is not exactly soup

Me too, I'm sorry to say. I'd hate to tell you how old mine is. My dentist says they don't make

them like it anymore.

I'm afraid to find out how much one similar to mine would cost now

When I had it made back '92, it was a "state of the art" kind of thing, where I had electrodes put on my jaws to take some sort of measurement of function/impairment, then the mold made, and after, the fitting and adjustments done. It was quite an ordeal!

I remember my portion of the cost, even with insurance coverage, was about $500.

I'm not sure insurance would cover it now, or what the process is. My current dentist said she would make one for me, but strongly suggests I get braces to "really" correct the problem. I have my doubts, since the original dentist never mentioned any orthodontics for treatment.

I can't imagine wearing braces at this stage of my life! Maybe if my son ends up getting them, I'll join in...

My first set was made by a maxiliofacial specialist, very expensive. But $400 cash from the dentist.

Just got it in April. It's not as perfectly spaced and adjusted as the one made by the specialist but I can wear those anymore. My teeth shift because of the jaw clenching, and I didn't wear them for a while (because I was feeling better) and then it was too late. Soo, expensive lesson there!

I feel your pain - I was to have surgery; now drs say good not to...(soup Rec)

but they want to realign my jaw and all my teeth - as if braces as a kid weren't enough!

I have tmj as a result of an injury in my teens. Didn't want the surgery because of the scars (vain girl!)- funny so many of us here have it. I had a 3 month stint about a yr and half ago where kaboom- I couldn't open my mouth enough to hardly use a fork. I couldn't even chew soup if it had anything in it.

This was my favorite go to soup as it is quick, easy, kinda thick, and nothing at all to chew.

8 minute creamy tomato soup

2 T unsalted butter
1/2 c chopped onions
1 28 oz can diced tomatos
1 c chicken stock
1 c heavy cream

Melt butter in 3 qt heavy saucepan. Add onions and saute for 2 mins. Add tomatoes, chicken stock, cream. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 mins.

Pour into blender or food processor. Blend until smooth (I like the blender for this -- be mindful of the hot soup and don't fill too full. I blend in batches.)

Pour into soup bowl and garnish with a glop of sour cream if you like.

Deeelish. And I was just going to make some tonight as my jaw is acting up too.

I get it too. Worst bout ever was after visiting the dentist---"Open Wide" and all that jazz.

Ohhh, I hate those words!

When they put those paper whatever they are into your mouth when they take xrays, I just cringe.

Thanks everyone, my jaw is much better now, but it is amazing

how many people have this. I would never have the surgery, I have heard that it doesn't always work and can be much worse than the TMJ actually is.
