Good Morning, I was looking for ideas for small gifts and I noticed your posting for the Carraba's Dip Mix..just perfect! One question, though; I noticed minced garlic was one of the ingredients. I wanted to make this mixture to give as gifts with a small bottle of olive oil...any problems having fresh garlic included? Or does the spice mix need to be made and given immediately? Thank you.

Good question...I just cut and paste that and didn't notice the minced garlic. CORRECTION: I used

just the garlic powder.

It's been a while since I've made it (last Christmas), I just skipped the fresh garlic--and but if I recall correctly, didn't replace it with anything.

I'd make a batch and see if it's to your liking. If it needs more garlic, bump up the powdered garlic.

In the past when I've made it, I made a massive batch (10 times the recipe...or more) and gave it away. It got to the point at my old office, people would ask if I was making it again this year. It became a holiday staple for them. smileys/smile.gif

If you're looking for smaller bags, the small little plastic jewlery bags work well. You can find them at craft stores.

Here's the original recipe posted by Sue Z Q.

Carraba's Italian Dip Mix (my boys call it
Sacred Oil)
Mix:
1 T. crushed red pepper
1 T. black pepper
1 T. dried oregano
1 T. dried rosemary (I used this in one
recipe, & not in another - both are good)
1 T. dried parsley
1 T. garlic powder
1 T. garlic - minced*
1 tsp. salt
Grind together & put 1 T. of mixture on a
plate. Pour extra virgin olive oil over &
mix. (I used regular olive oil) Dip crusty
bread into the mixture. Its to die for.

*Optional

I've used the granulated garlic that I find in the Mexican food section, but use just 1 tsp of it.
