Review: Trader Joes 9-sumthin'/pound hams for 99 cents a pound hams:
The original price on these hams was over 9$ a pound, if I read the tag right.
These hams, or at least the ones at our trader Joes are what they call "uncured" hams. No nitrites or nitrates (except those found naturally in sea salt and celery). Not smoked that I can tell. Come with what is deemed a "flame glaze." Ours was 9+ pounds.
Pretty tasty. I heated one up as per package directions and the glaze was more savory-sweet with a little tang, rather than that obnoxious sh**load of syrup/honey sweet. (good lord I hate candied hams!) The more crispy slices reminded me of a nice Canadian bacon.
I want to go back and buy a couple more of these and then heat them by smoking them in my barbeque smoker.
We had very tasty sandwiches on fresh, home-made french bread last night with a fresh fruit salad. We still have plenty of slices for more sammies today. I have a nice bone and hock for a big batch of beans too, or maybe some split pea soup.
