Update on kitchen equipment tally...

Oh you did not go there on shoes now, did you Curious1! smileys/smile.gif Uh oh!!

Not sure if I have more shoes than Christmas ornaments. (and there are enough ornaments
for about ten 12ft trees!Probably more boots and shoes!

As for gadgets, Gadgets R Us!!: pressure cooker, slow cooker, (both in original boxes, never used) electric juicer, food processor with about 15 blades, (some dupes) 1 VitaMix, a mini chop, 2 hand blenders, electric steamer, 3 grinders, 2 handheld mixers, 1 stand mixer, (I must have been the only person (read:idiot) on the planet to choose a Bosch mixer over a Kitchenaid smileys/frown.gif

PS: I have been fighting the urge to buy a rice cooker. Time for an intervention!

Every year I go through my kitchen and pantry stuff, and give away, toss out or sell

I'm in the process now. Just cleaned out my built in buffet in the kitchen...I discovered half used votive candles, half used and broken candles to use in candle sticks. I tossed them all out. I have so many candles, still wraped up in the packing they came in. So now I have 4 bags in my hubby's workshop waiting for our son and his wife to come for Easter. I can almost bet my dil will not want any of it. I have a huge amount of cloth napkins that I no longer wanted. Can't believe I even bought some of them, they go with nothing! Sigh!!

You all make me feel so much better about my collection of kitchen "stuff". I am so glad to

hear that I am not the only one. My friends are always amazed at my collection when they come to my house. So, I get to feeling kinda guilty about the amount when I realize that a non-foodie person does not have the same kind of collection that I do.

On that note, I think Cooks Illustrated just did a review of 9x5 bread pans and said that the Williams Sonoma one is one of the best, I need a couple of those.....

How lucky am I! I've found my copy!

I "don't appreciate" my 2 sets of fine china so they have remained packed out in the garage since we moved here in 2000. I'm looking forward to storing them - ah, giving them - to my two sons, who have no connection to the dishes! My mom had 2 sets - I have 1 of hers - and only used them when I was a small child. The other set was DH's grandparents - he never used them.

We purchased our dining room set from another family in 2005 but the china cabinet remained empty in the dining room until I saw a living room that Nate Berkus had decorated. I moved ours into the living room the next day and it looks great there! Colleen

Lol! You put me to shame! But I do have three food processors, different sizes, hand blender, KA,

and a hand mixer. It's so old, I'm not sure it counts, but it keeps on working.

Truly, none of U has a problem. I got into trouble when I decided to try my hand at being a caterer

as that meant my normal huge stockpile of pots, pans & gadgets was not enough to handle large crowds PLUS I am the type cook who doesn't like to take the time to clean as I am mixing and fixing. Ergo, I grab a clean rubber scraper each time I need one and will continue throwing the dirty ones in the dishwasher throughout the the course of the day. Then at the end of my working spree, I will wash them all at once. (At last count I had 27 rubber scrapers, and that tally doesn't include the ones stored with the Christmas decorations which sport pics of Santa Claus &/or holly berries &/or snowmen. Hmm, I just this second remembered that I also have one with hearts on it for Valentine's Day! Okay, you get my gist.)

And yes, we do have a full basement which is another bane to my DH's existence because he is NOT a pack rat so I am the culprit who has our downstairs overflowing with culinary stuff. I wasn't doing too badly UNTIL the local Farberware outlet store closed down.

Now you'll be mightily impressed that I didn't buy ONE ITEM of cooking equipment when this Farberware shop went out of business, but my eagle eye spotted the store's myriad Metro shelves used for merchandise display (see http://metroshelving.net/) so I inquired if they were being disposed of and promptly picked up 8 chrome heavy-duty shelving units for a mere $70.00 apiece. Each 4-shelf unit will hold a total of 2400 pounds. I have those in the basement; they are full; and I wish I'd bought a couple more. It's BAD, people. I am hard core. Sigh.

The good news is that my hubby can no longer complain about so much clutter in the basement because things are now neatly stacked on those shelves. I hadn't realized how much wasted space we had downstairs until I figured out I should store things vertically instead of only horizontally. I'm sure my DH wasn't at all pleased when I had that revelation. Smile.

did you forget your immersion blender? do you have a rose bundt pan? I just added one. thrift shop

find. I tested it and it did not stick. You need to buy you and Lar a "cabin" so you can spread the stuff out---makes it seem like less.

Heaven help me, but when I get married, we combine 2 households with 2 cooking enthusiasts, and our

mother's things as well. I have such a hard time getting rid of anything that was my mother's or that was a gift or, well, anything.

Maybe your shower can be a "Habitat for Humanity" give away to others?

All your guests can bring something they don't need and the whole kit and kaboodle can be donated.

Otherwise, I say it's time for a kitchen addition.

Allow me to brag, my friend....

... back home, in my real-sized kitchen, I not only have a rose bundt pan, but I have a tray of six rose pans.

and this coming from a person who cannot bake a cake to save her own life.

I also have cake rings. Three different diamaters, and two different heights. THat makes six.

Did I mention I do not bake cakes? I thought so...

I have 4 springform pans. PLUS two mini ones, that i have NO CLUE how they got to my kitchen cabinet. I am sure there's more, but I am 1,600 miles away, so I'll brag more in a few months.

Oh, my goodness--that will be very hard if you have to give away any of your things. At my age I

know I should begin getting rid of things and downsizing, but I absolutely cannot bring myself to throw out or donate anything as one day I "might need it"! I was elated to read that others have this same hang-up, errrr, I mean character trait. ha!

AngAk, good luck with putting your 2 households together. Methinks you are going to need a mammoth kitchen and a huge walk-in pantry, and those just for starters. Also, remember to stack straight up to the ceiling so as to not waste all that free & available space overhead. You might want to check out some Metro-shelving of your own--it sure saved my bacon.

Yes, I have one of those in blue. smileys/teeth.gif We really do use it in the hot summer months so our butter

isn't rock hard to slather on toast for breakfast.
