We need a Kid Friendly section...I need to come up with some ideas for a young family

that has 5 kids (2 of them twins just over 1 yr old) and mom is pregnant - with another set of twins! She has just been confined to bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy (she is 6 months) and needs meals. With 5 kids - oldest is 5-1/2, the meals need to be geared towards them. I'm racking my brain to come up with nutritious yet kid-friendly dinners.

Any ideas?!!!!

Mac and cheese? I'd ask her what they like/if there are any allergies/picky eaters.

Omg, 5 under 6 with 2 on the way?

A lot of kids are more adventurous eaters than people think. Have you asked the Mom if they are

picky or if they eat a little more exotically than you might think? This is a pet peeve of mine that people either assume kids won't eat anything or don't even try to feed them anything but "dumbed down" food. We ate everything when we were little. I loved blue cheese and smoked oysters.

Meatballs and fishcakes. Seriously, when my nieces and nephews are visiting, I make

meatballs from grinded beef and chicken, and I make my own fishcakes from grinded fish and I add the meatballs and chicken balls to everything from spaghetti and tomato sauce to pizza and I also serve them with gravy and mashed potatoes. Or macaroni and cheese. I serve the fishcakes with macaroni and cheese, but you could also make small fishballs and serve them in soup. When i make them myself from grinded meat/fish, I know what goes into them and I add spices and herbs that the kids like.

A friend of mine has 3 kids under 4 yrs. She makes granola every week. (Snack or cereal)

Good ideas everyone - thanks! Turns out they are pretty good eaters and no allergies, YAH!

I guess with 5 kids and 2 more on the way, you can't give in to picky eaters. They pretty much eat whatever the parents do, or they just wait til the next meal smileys/smile.gif
I'm thinking for this first meal I'll do chicken tetrazzini, peas and French bread with homemade butterscotch banana pudding and whipped cream. I always figure if dinner isn't a big hit, then they can have dessert smileys/smile.gif

My girls were the spaghetti-fish sticks-Mac n cheese eaters...now they eat everything. I even have a video of my daughter eating fried crickets in Hong Kong!

Great idea on the Chicken Tetrazinni - that was one of my absolute favorites

when I was a kid. Grandmother made it in huge quantities when we had family get-togethers. There were a lot of us. (My mom has 30 first cousins:)

My ideas are just serve what everyone else is eating...

that's how I grew up. There was no "kiddie food". We just ate what everyone else ate, never thought twice about it, and lived through it.

Sign me,

Truly don't get the fuss made over children food.

Can't say I did this with my kids by all but one grandson is being brought up this way...

They will dislike some foods which is natural but they will
definitely be better eaters.

The one thing everyone will eat is pasta - plain butter sauce or just parmesan and chicken schnitzel

which is a standard in Israel.
