Weekend Fun/Six

Okay, so it's still Friday night but I just had to write and say how much I am looking forward to this weekend!

I have (I think) finally rid myself of migraines that have lasted all week. Yay!

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting Marianne and her hubby at the Ferry Building for farmers market fun, shopping and whatever we end up doing, it's going to be great! I am looking forward to seeing her in person and we will take pictures!!! You know how when you chat on the phone with someone and you feel like instant friends? Well, that's Marianne! Her hubby will be lucky to get a word in edgewise I think smileys/smile.gif I wish more of us could get together but it is so great that we have such a wonderful and chummy family here, I feel so grateful to know you all.

Sunday, I am finally getting to go to Ad Hoc up in Napa! I am just as excited about this and hope they have fried chicken on the menu. So many people have eaten there and raved and raved about it and I know someone who knows the general manager and so we get to say HI from him, it's always nice to have an inside contact. I found out from my mom on this last family visit that her aunts and uncles used to love to get together and have fried chicken dinners in the backyard in the summer with mashed potatoes and lemonaid. Doesn't that sound lovely? Ever since I have been craving a chicken dinner!

That's only three but they are such big things to me that they count twice. I hope you have a great weekend!

Today's my birthday, so I made one of my favorites: Mexican Chocolate Icebox Cake. It's chilling in

the refrigerator until after dinner tonight.
Lou is making dinner - Pan seared/peppercorned Angus filet mignon with baked potatoes and steamed asparagus.

Am 3/4 of the way finished with my children's book. Am stuck on the next scene - it's really hard and a little complicated, but will get through it.

Nothing else new. Oh yeah, I almost forgot - Lou gave me an incredibly beautiful ruby ring with diamonds on each side, set on a white gold band!

My Six

Rain last night and early this morning-windows thrown open & fan running to bring in the lovely smell now that the sun is out.

Getting ready to make this lovely (see link) Lemon Buttermilk SCake again. I encourage you to try it-so good and also easy. I was going to make another lemon cake with the recently posted lemon swiss buttercream but not feeling that ambitious this morning. I either need a stool to stand on to whisk anything in the double boiler or an electric outlet closer to the stove to use the electric mixer.

Going to have a marathon watching six episodes of "Breaking Bad" over the weekend. My new guilty pleasure. Great morality play.

Need to rent a carpet cleaner for my one carpeted bedroom and maybe the sofa. Tired of my bedroom smelling doggy. The home machine is o.k. for touch ups but doesn't really have the suction for deep cleaning.

To nap, or not to nap....

Have to go chasing Bil-Jac dog food. I hate it that none of the grocery stores around my house sell it. Oh well, maybe can figure out a fun "side trip" stop since I have to go running around.

Heather, if you make the butterscotch pudding try dark brown sugar in it. I wish

I'd had some. I think the flavor would be even better. I like the idea of the Scotch addition. A bit of brandy would have been nice too.

Happy B'day, Meryl. Celebrate in chocolate. My six

are:

1 - strawberry shortcake for breakfast! I should get out there and see if my own need watering.

2 - tuna and macaroni casserole sounds good for supper, although I feel like curling up with a good magazine instead.

3 - shopping tomorrow morning. I haven't been in a few days. That sure does clean out the refrigerator fast. Also have to find a potent but non-toxic method for keeping the cats out of my neighbor's garden, which they prefer instead of the litter box.

4 - thanks for the well wishes - I'm feeling a little better, but this cold is a killer

5 - take the kids and swim tomorrow after shopping?

6 - wondering why no one in my cousin's family is not excited about learning that they're direct descendants of an original Mayflower Pilgrim!?? Not me, on their mother's side.

My Saturday Six

We haven't entertained since Christmas so I decided to have a dinner party this evening. Another couple will be joining us......starting back slowly.

Shopped for last minute items on the menu.

Made hummus from scratch. Soaked and cooked chickpeas. The recipe promised the skins would come off the chickpeas and float to the top of the water. The recipe lied. It took many, many rinses to get rid of the skins. However, the end product is wonderfully smooth. (I'm not even serving this tonight.)

Prepared some jalapeno flat breads.

Prepared bacon-wrapped almond filled olives.

Got the rest of the dinner organized and set to go.

Table is set.

Now to relax until I get changed.

Give this one a try, it is delish. REC: Monte's Ham

I am not sure who posted this but I seem to recall that it was Debbie in Georgia. Sorry if I wrong.

Monte's Ham

Recipe By :
Serving Size : 3 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Ham

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 15 lb. smoked ham -- on the bone
For Glaze:
1 1/2 cups orange marmalade
1 cup dijon mustard
1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 rounded tbsp. whole cloves

For ham, preheat oven to 300 degree F. Trim tough skin and excess fat from ham. Put ham in a large roasting pan and score, making crosshatch incisions over it with a sharp knife. Roast
for 2 hours. Remove ham from oven and increase heat to 350 degrees F.
For glaze, combine orange marmalade, mustard and brown sugar in a medium bowl. Stud ham with cloves, inserting one at the intersection of each hatch, then brush entire surface of ham generously with glaze and return to oven. Cook ham another 1-1/2 hours, brushing
with at least 3 times. Transfer to a cutting board or platter and allow to rest for about 30 minutes. Carve and serve warm or at room temperature.

Not sure who these notes are from: I made this recipe last year for the holidays. Everyone thought it was great. I have made more copies of this one dish than any other. If you are doing ham this holiday season give it a try. You will love it

Weekend Six

1. Friday night: no food in the house so we order out Chinese and watch Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (I think that's the one--the one with the whales.)

2. Oatmeal for breakfast. Need to stop eating so many eggs. Then onto the YMCA where Zumba kicked my butt. Soooooo sore tonight.

3. Made oatmeal raisin cookies. Doubled the cinnamon, but I still can't taste it. Really dislike McCormick Spices. They have no taste.

4. Dinner tonight: leftover Chinese food. Now onto a really hot bath.

5. Tomorrow we're going over to Penn State to the Creamery to buy some ice cream. I'm not so much into the ice cream (especially since it's still chilly here), but maybe I'll get a strawberry milkshake. LOVE them.

6. Excited about dinner tomorrow: grilled hamburgers. I could eat a cheeseburger every day.

Thanks Dawn - so if 15 lbs = 2 and 1.5 hrs, then 7 lbs = about 1hour, and 1 hour?

Slower is better, so maybe keep the same time time and just lower the temperature? Thanks Dawn.
