Weekend Six

Yes, hot button here too! Not only is it rude but they are, in effect, saying

No one else is as important as they are. Joe's idea is perfect! Meet them at the door and say sorry they missed the party as you rush past them calling over your shoulder "I need to leave now so I can be on time to my appointment. It would be rude to keep them waiting". Then just drive to the store or something.

If they are always allowed to get away with it, then they really will believe they are important enough for everyone to wait on.

Right...

I think it is some subconscious attitude of, "I'm so busy that you should be glad I showed up at all"...and I think, "REALLY?! Mom and Dad would read you the riot act for that attitude." GRRR.

The worst part is, I think he knows exactly how much my family hates this! We have long-time family friends whose chronic lateness has made it nearly impossible to get together for about 15 years. (Well, my mom always caves and jumps through hoops to get together with one of them, but the rest of us just cackle at what she puts up with.)

Sandra, that is really funny about the "individual" invitation is hysterical! Do you think she

ever figured it out! : )

Prune cake from the Pioneer Woman's site

Iny’s Prune Cake
Pioneer Woman
1 cup prunes
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup canola oil
1 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cover prunes with water. Bring to a boil and cook until soft and mashable, about eight minutes. Remove from heat, drain water, and mash on a plate. Set aside.
Mix together oil, sugar, and eggs. In a separate bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Combine wet and dry ingredients, add buttermilk and vanilla and stir gently until just combined. Throw in the mashed prunes and stir gently to combine. DO NOT OVERMIX!
Pour batter into buttered baking dish (9 × 13 or so) and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE OR INY WILL PADDLE YOUR BOTTOM.
While cake has five minutes remaining, make the icing:
1 cup Sugar
½ cups Buttermilk (I used 2 percent milk with 1/2 T vinegar Stir and let sit for 5 minutes)
½ teaspoons Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon White Corn Syrup
¼ cups Butter
½ teaspoons Vanilla
Combine all icing ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat and bring to a slow boil. Boil without stirring for 5 to 7 minutes, or until icing starts to turn dark. Do NOT allow icing to reach soft ball stage; icing should be caramel in color, but not sticky like caramel. Icing should be easily pourable. Remove cake from oven and pour on icing immediately. Allow to rest on the counter. Serve warm.
NOTE FROM P-DUB: There is absolutely zero “prune effect” associated with this cake. The end.

Barb, we told her after the wedding, and cheezz

I wasn't going to worry about "enabling" her on the day of our wedding, when we had just 70 people and we wanted to start the cocktails sharpish!
