Weird question: How to get peel n stick labels off jars?

I've always taken labels off by letting them soak in the sink/peeling them off.

However, a while back I bought a case of jam from a roadside place and they are good reuseable Mason jars, but they've got peel n stick labels that won't do anything even if I soak them overnight. The internet said to try olive oil, but that hasn't done anything either - the paper seems coated (even on the ones I soaked overnight).

Any ideas?

(I haven't bought Goo-gone yet as I'm trying to use what might just be already on hand around the house.)

Try WD 40

This is what I always use. Spray it on and rub it around the sticky spot. Leave it sit for awhile, come back and rub off with a paper towel. Wash with soap and hot water.

I use mineral oil, then scrape with the abrasive side of a sponge.

Goo Gone (it's orange oil with something else). Then a single-blade razor, if necessary.

Nail polish remover has worked for me, after I soak/scrub w. soap and water

Try a hairdryer...it softens the glue. I have an old bottle of SOS (Skin so Soft) that also works.

Be VERY WARY of this solvent. I ruined a new display cabinet by using nail polish

remover to lift off a sticker. It DISSOLVED the furniture coating. Had the cabinet in the house for 2 hours before marking it for life; 25 years later it's still branded with a 1" circle of stupidity.

I'm that guy your furniture restorer mom warned you about.

A little lighter fluid works well.

I think your labels are the plastic coated ones & you have to scrape that layer off

Before anything will penetrate the paper & adhesive

So far olive oil does nothing, soaks in, dries and acts like it was never there.

I just sat that jar aside thinking I need to get goo-gone or something. Seeing it lonely over in the corner I grabbed it to wash today and the labels just unexpectedly slid off!

Guess it just needed extra time to work.
