What is your Thanksgiving Menu?

For the 4 of us we are making too much food but what else is new..

- Roast turkey, brined, with herb butter under the skin

- Dressing, some in the bird and some in a casserole. My Granny's recipe with pork, apples, onions, golden raisins, marjoram and whole allspice

- Mashed potatoes and giblet gravy

- Spiced sweet potatoes with walnuts and Garam Masala

- Tomato aspic salad with bay shrimp (individual moulds)

- German cabbage, a braised sweet & sour cabbage dish that my Granny always made. That smell makes it a holiday, despite it being a funky smell!

- Potato tear apart rolls

- 3 cranberry sauces and a pickle tray

- pumpkin chiffon pie

and - Stretchy Pants!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!

Stretchy pants. Hah! Just don't get the meat sweats.

Our menu is very basic as well. I can't add anything new in because I'm usually the only one eating it. Perhaps I might try to make an appetizer this year--that might be a better place for new food.

The Bird
Mashed potatoes
Gravy!
Steamed blue hubbard squash
Sage stuffing (with Bell's seasoning!)
Boiled onions
Green beans

Apple pie
Apple crumble (this is for me because I don't like pie crust)
Pumpkin pie

My favorite part of the meal is the stuffing and gravy.

Stuffing and gravy are my favorite dishes as well. I especially love

the leftover stuffing with a fried egg on top - a Friday morning breakfast tradition!

Our traditonal hot dogs... kids aren't home, and I'll be serving food at the rescue mission all day

This was my first draft

Nakládaný hermelín (marinated cheese)
Fig and Black olive Tapenade
Smoked Salmon Spread
Baguette toasts, crackers

Turkey and MIL's Stuffing
Cranberry relish
Asparagus bundles with Prosciutto
Praline Squash Puree
Balsamic Roasted Onions
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy

Lemon Coconut Tart
Something Harvesty? Maybe that apple cake.

But then Daughter #1 emailed me back and reminded me that the cousins don't like fancy stuff and it needs to get plainer. Maybe I'll change the praline squash puree to other SIL's butternut/potato casserole - mix powdered onion soup with cream, pour over the vegetables and bake for an hour. It's really good and pretty darn plain.

make chateaubriand and tell the cousins that...

you scored on some tenderloin helper.

Elegant hoity-toity brunch at the local upscale hotel, because DH said "don't spend all day cooking

on Thursday, since there's just the two of us". OK, so what's for supper on Thursday night, Sweetheart?

I'm really going to miss my Thursday night and Friday morning leftovers, and my bread dressing sandwiches on toast in the morning.

I'll probably sneak a turkey into the oven on Saturday, so I can have dressing, and a carcass to make turkey gumbo, and some leftovers, and DH will be blissfully ignorant of the whole effort.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

nope - it's me who feels blessed to be able to do it. Reminds me of what I have to be thankful for

turkey, Stove Top stuffing, sweet potatoes will little marshmallows, green beans from a can, gravy.

they'll love it smileys/smile.gif
oh, and don't forget the Marie Callendar's pumpkin pie.

hey! you said 'plainer' smileys/smile.gif This was OUR traditional Thanksgiving as kids... glad I've matured

I say the cousins can fill up on the mashed potatoes and gravy, leaving more Praline Squash

for those who appreciate your efforts.
