What's the oddest/silliest thing someone in the food service has ever said to you? I'll start...

Was in a bakery the other day to order a First Communion cake for someone, and I thought I'd buy a piece to taste first - I had heard good things about them, but never ate anything from there before. I didn't mention that I would be buying a large cake first, maybe I should have.

There was a pan of cake, already cut into, and a piece was gone, leaving a corner piece and many other "non-corner" pieces left. "Could I have that piece please?"

The clerk answered' "No, I can't give you that piece." I thought she was kidding at first, and asked why not. "I have to cut from left-to-right, not up-and-down."

Huh? Wha...? Needless to say, I just shook my head and walked away, telling here I'll order elsewhere.

Anyone else?

After a large and costly meal one of the eight at our table asked for a small pitcher of milk

instead of the creamers offered with our coffees.

The waitress denied the request and told us that it was against state law (NJ) to do so.

I was in Germany where I think the only beverages available in a restaurant have alcohol..

I was pregnant (not showing yet) and was craving a glass of milk. When I asked the waiter for milk he looked at me, dumbfounded, for a full minute then straightened up with his chin almost on his chest and loudly exclaimed "Only BABIES drink milk", then walked away.

yea, I hear you. I grew up with this unhealthy attitude in the family regarding alcohol--German

parents and all their friends. If I didn't want to drink alcohol, then something must be wrong with me.

Irks me when I want a small portion and they won't let me order a children's or senior menu item.

what difference does it possibly make if I can only eat a smaller portion, and pay for that portion, and not leave a lot of waste? I have even told them to go ahead and charge me a full price, but give me the smaller portion. just dumb. It's not a buffet I'm talking about where it would make a difference in consumption/price. it's just a smaller plate of food that I want. grrrrr.

Does creamers mean those packages of powdered milk? If so, maybe

the Food Police don't want fresh sitting out? Life used to be much easier.

My sons were out in downtown Bastrop one Christmas Eve afternoon looking for a hamburger.

they went to What-a-Burger and were told "sorry, we are out of meat." The guys were aghast and asked how that could possibly happen. The reply was, "well, we have chicken!"

There are so many, I can't remember them - I think I purposely block them out. There's one incident

I remember, though - I was in a diner in FL (first and last time there), and wanted some sort of dish without their crappy-sounding sauce all over it, and they charged me extra to leave off the sauce!!! I argued how illogical that was, but the uptight waitress wouldn't budge.

The old "Excellent choice" response no matter what you

order as explained by an actual reviewer below. Not an odd or silly comment here, but that line is so very phony to me.

"My husband and I went to (restaurant) tonight because I have been dying to try it out...Not a mistake I will make twice! The ambiance was okay, the service was average and according to our waitress, everything was an "excellent choice" leaving us to wonder if I had ordered bile on a stick, would that have been her reply? We got the food which was mediocre at best and the portions were sooo small...THEN CAME THE BILL! I can say with complete honesty that I have NEVER in my life been to such a RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED (for what you actually got) restaurant in my life! It looks like a fun cool place on the outside, but the parking stinks, and I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone that I wanted to still keep as a friend!"

I ordered a chicken dish at a restaurant...

and the waiter asked asked "How would you like that cooked?"

After almost choking, I said "Thoroughly, please."
