Believe it or not, I was really thinking about all of my friends here, knowing you'd be worried about me/family. So nice!

Hope Barb B is ok. Not sure where she lives.

This is the first day I've had access to power/internet, so I wanted to let you know how we're doing.

We lost 2 70+ ft pine trees, thankfully didn't fall on our neighbor's house, or the street. fell into our pond at the foot of the driveway, gonna cost a fortune to get them out of there! smileys/frown.gif not covered by insurance of course. We have no power, and don't expect to have power til a week from Friday. smileys/frown.gif The problem is, so many utility poles went down this time. Last hurricane, the trees took lines down, but this time utility poles/transformers went into the street. Much more time to repair. It's ugly. Can't think about all the soups and sauces in the freezer being trashed. Luckily I was working down the refrig/freezer in anticipation (and inspired by the "cleaning out freezer posts here recently smileys/smile.gif so not a ton of stuff to trash. I'm like Michael in Sarasota, all those spices/jars on shelves in fridge==better make a list before I toss!!

It's a crazy state here!!

The gas issue is at a crisis point. 2-3 hours wait for gas.

I'm holed up alone in a hotel in a rural area, 40 miles NW of where we live . Afraid to drive back home for fear of not being able to gas up again. The town has no power

but the hotel does, as it is a designated

emergency place for hospital staff, so they

are operating the whole place on generator!

Can you say SHOWER!! After 4 days, feels pretty good!

I am in the lobby, (spent the day here) as that's the only place with wi-fi.

Made some new friends, I hosted a wine and cheese happy hour a while ago (thought yous guys would be proud smileys/wink.gif

Hey, I know what to pack!

for the other people that were working here today. smileys/smile.gif we watched each other's things all day, as we took rest room and leg stretch breaks.

Michael (DH) went to Chicago, flight actually took off on time, amazing!

Sigh. tired of this already, and I'm sure we're in for another week of no power.

We have the room til 11/11, so we're covered, but it's hard to be away from my little kitty! smileys/frown.gif Trying to conserve gas, so I won't go home to check on him til either Sat or Sun. smileys/frown.gif

Feeling a load of Catholic guilt as I complain. So many lost all, so very sad. Lotta fond memories of the Jersey shore as a youth.

Michael and I got engaged on the beach at Point Pleasant, smileys/smile.gif

As Christie says, we can rebuild, but it will never be the same.

Thanks again all!! smileys/smile.gif Will check in again soon!

So good to hear from you Mo! And so sorry for all the hassle, but glad you're safe.

That was an interesting report. I am just getting an idea how far reaching and catastrophic this storm was.

A shower: another little thing we take for granted. So happy you're safe...and one small

consolation: it's probably too cold for mosquitoes. That kills us in FL after a hurricane because of all the standing water.

I am so relieved for you! Glad you are safe and out of harm's way. All that stuff is

replaceable. You are right, it won't be the same, but it will BE, and that is good.

Glad you're ok, Mo! Hang in there... BTW, I sent Barb_b a text message, and they're ok:

She writes, "Thanks for your concern. Entire town is out of power; schools, library, markets closed. George + neighbor spent 4 hours getting gas for generator. Cell phone is unpredictable, no cable, etc. But house is ok. Lost a few trees, but nothing compared to neighbors. We had a few friends that had trees go through their roofs... We feel very fortunate."

You better believe we're proud of the wine and cheese happy hour! Grace in the face of adversity.

I'm sorry to hear about all your losses. Just because it could have been worse doesn't mean it's not difficult. Hang in there!

Mo so glad to hear from you!! Glad too that you are safe. Is there anything

that you need that we can send you? Might be faster than you being able to find it? Please let us know if there is anything we can do!

Mo so sorry to hear the state of things...

haven't heard from barb either so I've been wondering how they came through. It was certainly a nasty business. Another friend on LI is still without power and not expecting it for another 4-5 days at this point.

I spent a week with no electricity when Isaac roared through Cincinnati in 2008 and wiped out 90% of the Greater Cincinnati power grid. The psychological toll of living in the dark really starts mounting. Sounds like you're doing the right thing by getting out and surrounding yourself with others for moral support to get through it together.

Good luck and best wishes for a swift return to normal.

It is a relief to hear from you & thank you for thinking of us. You really took a hard hit.

I sure know the feeling about the shower. Water seems to be the biggest treat after these events and at least it didn't happen a month later. I'm know we're all hoping for the best possible when you do get to return.

And I saw a news clip with a kitty walking over the porch of a vacated house. They are indeed such survivors.

Making the best of it for sure

Mo, so glad you are safe.

Been there, done that awful hurricane stuff. Without power 8 weeks, without water 5 days, island devastated for years. But the great thing is that people roll up their sleeves and rebuild with a new spirit. And people that are not related or don't even know each other become family for a while as they all go in a unified direction of recovery. Very sorry you and everyone had to suffer this awful storm but glad you got through it with a good spirit. The East will rise again!

Hang in there...and I

hope that your husband is able to get home soon to be with you.
Betty
