Whew--we made it. Many thanks for your caring and concern

So glad to hear from you and you're safe

is there anyway you could take your kitty back with you? Heard they are trying to get gas in with tankers, but for now it's very tough going. (((Hang in there.)))

I keep wondering how we'd cope with a disaster on each coast simultaneously. If the earthquake

had occurred just a little further south, as it no doubt will since it is said to be way overdue, the devastation to major cities will be catastrophic. If a hurricane is going on on the east coast of each of our countries, can you imagine!! The 2 countries couldn't help each other and the troops would be dizzy trying to figure out where to go first next.

I used to have legitimate worries about hurricanes; now I worry about earthquakes.

Marg, did you know about the Tsunami warnings the earthquake caused?

Not many seem to know about another possible disaster- the threat to the Hawaiian Islands from the earthquake(s) off Canada. Evacuations from low-lying areas on three islands- including Oahu where most of Waikiki was evacuated- and horrific traffic caused by people trying to get to higher ground. People not able to get back to their homes or resorts until about 3am the next morning.

We have several Tsunami "watches" a year but a Tsunami "warning" is the highest level- this latest from your big earthquake was a cause of concern. So even more possible disasters. So happy all of us are safe. Where you are and where we are!

Yes, watches and warnings down the coast to California. The terms are the same

for hurricanes. I always used to get alarmed when I heard "warning" in the Caribbean.

I didn't know that you were evacuated there.

And there were little aftershocks here for 4 days. The big one will come.

The tsunami sirens went off last Saturday in Maui. We had just

returned to our condo from having dinner out and were kicking back relaxing watching the waves come ashore, when the tsunami sirens sounded (tsunami due to earthquakes in Canada). We were told to evacuate to higher ground, several miles away, with blankets and pillows and a few belongings in case we needed to spend the night in the car. Five hours later, in the middle of the night, we got the all clear to return home. Fortunately, the tsunami wave activity was minimal. Have lived with earthquakes for over 45 years in California, small ones and big ones, and while earthquake activity here is a way of life for Californians, the tsunami experience is one I'd rather not repeat. I was grateful though for all the people, tourists and locals, who kept their heads about them and stayed as calm as they could under the circumstances.

Hi Everyone! Many thanks for your good wishes! (( ))s to all! Glad ur ok, Amanda!

Was wondering if your area in PA was affected too.

Day 7 of no power, gas lines are easing somewhat, waits down from 2-3 hours to maybe an hour. The odd/even rationing is helping. smileys/smile.gif
Hoping power will be restored today--we'll see.
A lot of folks in town are getting power back, but no phones, internet etc. I'll take heat and the heck with the rest!! smileys/smile.gif
Slept home Saturday nite to keep Nicky kitty company, so after the initial dirty look and cold shoulder, he stuck to me like glue. smileys/smile.gif sweet. DH back, all's good!
Will check in again soon. Hoping once we're back to normal, we can volunteer to help others. smileys/smile.gif

Thanks again!
