Reminds me of moving to our now-house. Had helped out with cakewalks at the kids old school, was happy to help out with the "bake sale" at the new school. . .
BUT, I was told that, due to the fact that no one wanted to organize a real bake sale, only commercially made creme pies were sold (someone at the school had a connection). And I mean "creme" pies as in no dairy products. Hail, I coulda made something to beat those things with a hand tied behind my back.
It was so sad. Even at the in-class international/celebration meals, oh, probably 3/4 of the stuff was store-bought/made. And this was 20 years ago. . .
