Yes, I have heard that as well. Perhaps the distinction of the dialects depends on whether

Thanks, Elaine! smileys/smile.gif I read about the Aroma in NY--will have to check it out, as I do miss Israel! smileys/smile.gif

Erin, go to the SmittenKitchen blog. She lives in NYC and is an editor, or was >>>

She quit her job last week to freelance. I bet if you corresponded with her she would be a good source of work and apartment information.

Thanks, Dawn! Chinese food is FIRST on my list. smileys/smile.gif

Good Luck Erin. Maybe a road trip to NY is in order to meet some of you East Coast FKers.

Upper west side -- 70's to 80's -- near Central Park

Zabars, Citarella, History museum, and Lenny's!!! Need I say more??????

How wonderful for you, Erin. Good luck with your move. Last year I got to visit

NYC for a few days with girlfriends and had a blast. I'll look up a few of the places I dined and post but in the meantime I'm sure there are others more knowledgeable than I on places to eat, snack and people-watch.

Hope your move goes smoothly for you.

Edited to add: These spots were recommended to try and we did....

John's Pizzeria - I was told it's "arguably the best pizza in the city". And it was indeed really great pizza. The one at 278 Bleecker was recommended but we ate at the one at 260 West 44th St. johnpizzerianyc.com

Rocco Pastry Shop (243 Bleeker St.) for great coffee and cannoli. OMG, the cannoli was to-die-for. So delicious. And across the street you'll find the famous Amy's Breads.

Becco, Lidia Bastianich's casual place, at 355 W. 46th St. was recommended for $17 pre fix lunch or $22 dinner. We went for dinner and it was really delicious. Enjoyed having wine at the bar while waiting for a table...they have some great complimentary nibbles at the bar...sooo good. I'd go back there in an instant. http://www.becco-nyc.com/

Heck, I'd go back to NYC in an instant...there's so much to see and do there, and so many great places to dine. I just know you'll love it too.
