There is a lady at the side of the road who sells wonderful Avos, mangos, provisions etc. usually a little less than the supermarkets...

'sides it's fun to buy roadside.

I often stop and buy 4 or 5 Avos at a time.

The other day whilst giving the gardener a lift home I asked him to run in to get me some diet coke from the local island 'shed' sort of hut I sometimes stop at and then to buy a couple avos from the 'local' lady...while I tried to keep out of other traffics way (roads very narrow here)

Result...

Coke to me $1.00 per tin; to him $0.40

Avos to me $6.00 each; to him $3.00

Rip-off.....

some of us just can't help looking like tourists! quite the markup, but she's still cheaper?

Yes, the expat tax. Annoying. If you're gardener's open to doing the shopping, problem solved. smileys/smile.gif

We actually stopped so I could get him a drink and some 'provisions' and he was appalled at the cost

of the avo at $3.00 (I bought him one too.)

Avos are one of those ingredients that if req'd for a recipe, I always purchase extras...I often

find one that while it looks great on the outside, it is brown in the center...I learned this "expensive tip" the hard way. I was hosting a dinner. Cuban themed; included a wonderful salad of cilantro and avos....The avocado was brown on the inside!! SOO disappointing! So, now, many years later, I still buy extra avos when needed for a specific recipe.
