Anyone roasted cabbage in chunks? I found this article on Yahoo today and was intrigued, but there is no actual 'recipe' to follow through.

I have never even thought of roasting wedges of cabbage but I suspect I might like this. I do enjoy it with onions and bacon, but what else and how long in the oven at what temp. I can imagine this would work well with a pork roast. hmmm maybe a paste of garlic, onions, bacon fat, parsley..........Wondering if gujuanjang (sorry for the sp) sauce might be good too, with a side of rice.

I have never roasted them in wedges but I have cut them into sort of thick slabs, or steaks as the bloggers like to call them, and then drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper and any herbs if you want. Then I high heat roast them or grill them, flipping once. I like them to start to get soft but crispy up on the outside.

well...............I have never heard of this. Thanks Missy. I have a cabbage that is in for a new experience.

Old weight watcher favorite--cut in half, core, cut each half into 3 or 4 wedges. Add toothpick to hold layers together. Place in pan with edges and add about an inch of chicken broth. Roast at 400 degrees until tender. Season when done (depends on the salt amount in the chicken broth).

Okay, I'll try this tonight, but likely with some toppings that would not garner WW's approval. Thanks

blast from the past, I found this in my try file

Nlb's Roasted Cabbage

Here's a recipe I made last night that is absolutely delicious and not a carb in sight. I hope you will give this a try — it has a wonderful rich quality and is creamy, even cheesy tasting, and so satisfying — I had three helpings with my lamb chops - nlb

Ingredients
    • 1 medium head cabbage, cored and quartered
    • 2 cups rich chicken stock or broth
    • 4 or more cloves garlic, puréed
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 t thyme leaves
    • 1/2 cup butter
Steps
    • I precooked the cabbage by microwaving until still crisp and placed in a baking pan, spread with the garlic, some of the butter and basted with the chicken stock, and sprinkled with some of the salt and pepper and the thyme.
    • Roast at 375 degree F., basting occasionally — salting, peppering and adding butter until tender crisp and browned. When leaves separated, I kept roasting until rich and tender. It took about an hour.
Notes

Dawn’s note “great with added vinegar too“
