Any menus or food planned for Easter?

FWIW I don't Facebook and I could see Joe's album.

If you click on the "Image" link in his original post that is linked here, you will see the front page of the album. If you click "Next" in the teenytiny font on the upper right corner of the picture, it will scroll forward to the next photo.

No, you need to be on FB. What Joe is saying is you don't have

to be friends with anyone to see his page. So you can set your privacy setting for "only you" and no one will ever know you are on FB. But you can see his because he has set his for everyone can see. I have mine set for only friends that I except.

My friend who isn't on FB was able to see the photos. Sent her the link as she wants to do a pizza

oven in her yard as well.

Joe, you are inspiring many!

This looks really cute, but wouldn't be able to slice it for serving. smileys/wink.gif Is your sourdough dough.

a similar texture and does it have similar characteristics to what the blogger describes worked best for this project?

The only sourdough I've worked with in the past was a bit difficult to shape, but I am a rank novice in the bread baking department. smileys/smile.gif

*edited to clarify that I would not be able to slice the bunny loaf for serving because it is so cute!

Would you share your recipe for the coconut cream eggs? My DD loves coconut, and that

would be a fun project for her and I.

Like Orchid said, I thought you have to be on Facebook, thought not my "friend." Lisa

seems to have found a way in.

OH!!! I had to click on the IMAGE link and not the LINK link,DUUUUUH!!!! Joe, the oven is FABBOOO!!!

You make it look easy with your great photos Joe! I soooooooooo want one. Have you done more bread in it yet? How is it? How far away did you need to place it from trees/etc? I could stick one in the far corner of the yard ... my soil is CLAY so I'd have that on hand. Bricks sand too. Somebody would need to drink a ton of pinot though!

I'm so thrilled for you...hope you keep filling us with stories of what you are making in it.

PS
What are you going to plant on the arbor? That's lovely too...grapes? For more pinot? smileys/bigsmile.gif

Recipe: Coconut Cream Easter Eggs

I use bittersweet couverture chocolate and temper it. My mom used to use the chocolate coating that you just melt and dip. We like the taste of the real chocolate, but the other method isn't bad if you don't want the fuss of tempering. I posted a fairly good method for tempering on this site awhile back.

Mom's Coconut Easter Eggs
Servings: 30

Ingredients:

14 ounces sweetened coconut flakes, Baker's moist
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 1/2 cups Cool Whip®
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 pounds bittersweet chocolate, tempered

Directions:

Chop coconut in food processor for 5 to 10 seconds. This will do away with long strings.

Mix all ingredients except chocolate together with wooden spoon or hands and add confectioners' sugar and Kool Whip until the consistency is firm enough to keep a shape, but still creamy.

Moisten hands slightly and form into small eggs and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment. Place in refrigerator for about 24 hours until the eggs are no longer sticky to the touch.

Remove eggs from refrigerator about 30 minutes before you want to dip them. Dip in tempered chocolate and place on parchment lined cookie sheets until set. If chocolate is properly tempered, this takes only about 5 to 10 minutes.

When completely set, wrap eggs in wax paper or foil candy wrappers and store in refrigerator or freezer. Bring to room temperature before eating.

Notes: Old family recipe.

Rec: Best Brownies

I substitute the regular flour for GF using the ATK recipe for the flour mix, but you can probably use any GF mix.

Best Brownies
Servings: 16

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoonhs cocoa
1 tablespoon honey, or light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tablespoon milk, 1 to 2

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.

2. In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overbake.

4. To Make Frosting: Combine 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon honey or corn syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla, milk, and 1 cup confectioners' sugar. Frost brownies while they are still warm.

Notes: Excellent. With GF flour, you can't tell the difference.

Maria, I'll be making this same bunny bread for the 3rd time this Easter.

It turned out very nicely the first 2 times. It certainly makes an adorable addition to the Easter table. Let me know how your sourdough version turns out if you attempt it.

I'm spending Saturday night at my friend's house to dye eggs with her 10 year old,

yay, sleepover party! Once he's gone to bed I'm going to introduce her to Garfunkel and Oats, such a funny and wrong show now on Netflix!!

She's going to make biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. The last time we had a sleepover, she made cheddar bacon biscuits. I love my friends...

Saturday we are going to prepare dessert for Easter dinner using my friend Janet's recipe - Chocolate Covered Strawberry Carrots on Chocolate Dirt. It's going to be so adorable! We're going to target to see if we can find some cute (and cheap) containers as dinner with be a blended family party with her beau, his kids, us and who knows who else! I think we need to make about 16 pots of "dirt". I am excited because the recipe is egg free!!! Did I already share this here? CRS abounds this week.

Hoppy Easter!

I haven't made more bread yet because we are still scrambling around getting the yard ready

for the annual Easter do. But I will try again soon. The oven wasn't quite hot enough for a dark crust the first time--I'll get it down. The nice thing is that it fits twice as many loaves as my kitchen oven and they cook faster.

If you're serious buy Kiko's book! And get a gang together to help with the wine and the building.

I just used common sense about trees and stuff. I didn't check into local regulations, but now we want to build one in our community garden. For that I had to look into local regulations. I found out: there are none whatsoever. The reason is that ALL OUTDOOR WOOD FIRES ARE ILLEGAL IN CALIFORNIA BY STATE LAW! A law that is never enforced. So my chiminea, my neighbor's smoker, my sister's fire pit--we are all outlaws. So are people who have fires in state campgrounds with fire pits. We are truly the land of fruits and nuts.

So, I appealed to the Parks Department, which owns the garden property, and I guess they weren't too impressed with the state restrictions (parks have barbecues and fire pits) But they punted it to the Fire Department. I thought for sure it was doomed at that point, but the Fire Department only asked that we have a fire extinguisher handy. So we start building the garden oven in a couple weeks! I am emptying Pinot Grigio bottles as we speak.

I'm glad you got to see the photos. Oh, and we have grape vines started on the arbor. I also had to buy shade cloth for this first season.
