Going to New York City for a few days to meet friends from the UK. Any recommendations?

Where should we eat that's good, but not too expensive? We'll be in Brooklyn as well.
The Most Exciting Thing is that we have tickets for the Met Opera!!! The Marriage of Figaro, I'm so thrilled.

Have been hearing raves about BV burgers (offshoot of Bobby Van's Steakhouse--which has an indoor restaurant seating 3 course prix fix at 55.00)
Burgers are 5.00 from 11am-3pm and are substantial. A few outdoor tables, but mostly takeout. 120 West 45th St New York, NY 10036 Theater District. Midtown West
EAK Ramen: E.A.K Ramen - But First, Ramen. Two locations in NYC, HIGHLY recommend their signature EAK Ramen. It's fantastic!
Ballato: Ballato's NYC real Italian food. Interesting place. :)
If I think of any others, I'll add. Have fun!

I’m not going to know of any of the fancy places because it’s been too long, but I never could go back to ny without a stop at papaya king’s hot dogs, the tropical drink I could never replicate here on the west coast. So good! Possibly the cheapest eats in nyc.
