My current little girl evidenced allergies at 6 months. I went though hoops for her, making
her ground lamb and rice until she had been on it long enough that the vet was concerned about her getting the other nutrients that cats need, that this could not provide.
At that time, only a local gourmet store with butcher had the ability to grind lamb and they did it just for her.
she had a round of allergy testing that determined that she had problems with odd items such as grasses that most cats were not bothered by. Moulds. She lived the first several months of her life in the Caribbean so I thought it might end when she moved north.
No difference. I gave her allergy injections. What a trauma for both of us!
Eventually she was consuming steroids that were likely to end her life early but at least she would have a life and not constantly be ripping at herself.
So, lots of love later, she is now 16. We are all amazed. She still takes steroids every second day when necessary and she's had a good life.
But the food just did not make any difference. At several points she was eating better than we were. Duck, pheasant.....
I understand that the difference between dogs and cats is that dogs can survive better with fewer 'special' ingredients. You're probably familiar with them. But how would you source them in order to produce the cats' food?
