I think my baking mojo is broken. or holiday mojo. I have a list that I just stare at. change.

No, but I buy an organic butter grown where I grew up in Humboldt Co, on the west coast near Eureka,

CA and it is over $6.00 for a pound. Crazy!

I practially only go to Costco for the butter - it's gotten so expensive!

and now not even Land O'Lakes has the long sticks of butter anymore that fit my butter dish from mom's. I guess it's a west coast thing, which is just weird.

I had some crushed peppermint from the cookies but wanted something creamy. I'll call it camouflage

and send those to the 7 year old boy who would love it. I found camouflage salt water taffy at Sportsman's Wharehouse. Yes, I fell for it.

for anyone interested in these, I used brownie batter and white chocolate Reeses. only found at

walmart here. used mini muffin cup liners in festive colors. baked the brownie part for 15 minutes, took them out and pressed the reeses cup into the center, and put back in oven for about a minute. sprinkle as desired, or lashes of dark chocolate over the top are elegant. super easy and most everyone loves them. I do the same thing with sugar cookie dough and chocolate Reeses. Rolos also work well

butter is crazy expensive! and I couldn't find a box of powdered sugar, just the big bags. for lime

meltaways!

"Only" $4/lb here but I bet it will change. I've been buying Challenge with coupons of $1 off,

but probably still not as cheap as Costco. And Challenge comes in the long sticks! I got used to them in Florida and when I moved here, the sticks were all short and fat which my butter dish is not!

I cannot believe the amount of money I spend on food for just the two of us...

don't know how we afforded to feed three kids who were all involved in a sport plus their friends here all the time.

Challenge doesn't comes in the long sticks here. None do anymore.

Pretty sure I read someplace (here?) that it's an east/west coast thing. At Costco you can still come in around $2.50 a lb for butter.

I know! Food is expensive here. It was cheaper when I was in SoCal.

One reason I started making bread was spending almost $5 per loaf on sourdough, $3+ on sale. Food/etc have gone up, income on a whole hasn't kept up.

What's going on is: four favorite movie channels have been showing Christmas shows all afternoon

and night since around Halloween. The ads have been prompting us to buy gifts since then too. Now the stores are so full of tired looking faces wandering aimlessly around, not to mention the store clerks who had to work on Thanksgiving and all night because the stores are trying to grab every dollar they can. It is just crazy and I am really not so thrilled with all of it. I will be happy when it is over. Two weeks ago, I saw a few ads for Valentines Day and I see the candy coming into the stores already.

Two batches of shortbread baked. Dough for almond crescents and Lingonberry Sandwich cookies done!

WOW, that is impressive! About 15 yrs ago a lady asked me to make and ship about 800 cookies

to her. It took me 5 days to git 'er done--I made 797 of 10 different kinds, and the glory of it was that from southern Indiana to the Cleveland area shipped by UPS==>NOT ONE COOKIE arrived broken. I was ecstatic! So, rhoward2va, I understand precisely what you are into. Do you gift these cookies, or are they all for your family? I even decorated the sugar cookies, but keep in mind I was MUCH younger then. lol!

Gifts for friends and family. We're empty nesters now and although my husband would like to

we couldn't possibly eat them all. I started out years ago making about 5 or 6 kinds and somehow have gradually gotten up to 13. When I try a new one and it's a keeper, nobody wants me to drop any of the others. I think I'm putting a cap on 13 though;.
