I can sympathize with you Meryl! Normally I get eaten alive with mosquitos but there aren't any

where I live now and have yet to be bitten. I guess it's a matter of what area of Florida you're in.

That reminds me of Johnny Carson who asked what the state bird of New Jersey was.....

scroll way down for answer

The mosquito.

My house was facing a lake in the back, so maybe that's why there were so many mosquitos. Even the

few months of the year when it was cool over there, I got bitten up! The panoramic lake view was beautiful, but I had to use citronella candles when sitting out there, or I'd be eaten alive. The lady whom we bought the house from had the enclosure removed, because apparently her husband screwed it up when he installed it, so the patio was all open, and we never got it redone.

Awww orchid, how sweet of you!

I may just take you up on your invite some day! I'll bring the wine, booze, whatever. Geez, I have a big beautiful state to explore. I love to explore. Perhaps I'll drive westward through Alligator Alley to get there - LOL!

Thank you orchid!

I'm in South Alabama, about 3 miles from the Florida line, between Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL,

50 miles inland from the Gulf. I visited the Tampa/St. Pete environs a few years ago, and fell in love with the area! I'd move there in a heartbeat if I had no other ties. You are so lucky to be there. I really enjoyed the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, The Spanish food at the Columbia restaurant in Tampa, and the Greek food and heritage along the Gulf, where the Greek deep-sea divers harvested sponges. I know you will enjoy your new sub-tropical life style. Keep us posted.

You're a gal after my own heart Marg! Ah yes, French Riviera villa with

Viking outdoor kitchen setup and my Viking pots, Villeroy & Boch, indoor and outdoor fireplaces.... lemon & meyer lemon trees - very pretty, and the lemons vaaarry sweet! Sergio Mendez playing in the background as I bask in the tropically heated aqua-colored pool for that St. Tropez tan whilst I munch on oysters, shrimp, Dover sole, veal chops, and peach melba for dessert - just a sampling! LOL!!

Dreams I tell ya'!!

My BIL has a home in the Ft. Myers area - he has what I call a standard lanai,

enclosing the rear pool and patio area, with the grill. I love visiting there - the whole back of the house opens up into the "inside outside", we watch all the bugs and critters land on the lanai screen.

One evening, he casually commented that he needed to make sure the garage door was closed (there were a lot of us out-of-towners visiting), as the snakes like to come in if it's left open. smileys/surprise.gif

Sandy, do you live on one of the keys or islands? I live in Bradenton, east of 75 and we have nasty

numchuck carring mosquitos.

Perfect description Lisa, it really is an extension of the house. I'll put a

picture that shows it a little bit. The picture that I have in Photobucket is really about the orchid. Hubby has a photo that really shows the design and size of the screen room and I'll get him to put it over there. Oh, and evidently the West Coast is a bit more upper class than us East Coasters. Lanai? Here it's just screen room. ;0))

Most definitely Alligator Alley! But ya gotta do it while it's still cool.

I'll get a PM off to you.

Florida is an amazing state! I finally drove pretty much the coast, up from Miami thru Georgia to

the Carolinas. Back down, cut across Georgia and hit the coast near Panama City, down through Tampa and crossed back to the Atlantic by Alligator Alley.
Take one of the air boats, really noisy, but fun. I loved St. Augustine!!!, really like the Cocoa Beach area, Tampa and down around Ft. Meyers and the two little islands there with all the shells.
And there is no place like the Keys.
I want to go now!
Enjoy your new home Sandy!!!
Nan

But I do hate being out walking at night and hear that plane. Luckily, we usually hear it in the

distance and manage not to go on those nights. I don't like the idea of being sprayed, although I'm sure they'd say it's harmless.

Nice. St. Augustine was a favorite for me as well. We drove from the Keys up the east coast and on

up to Pennsylvania. Great trip. Next time we want to see more of the west coast. Great state.

I'm in Ellenton near the prime outlet shops. Geez, they sound like super hero mosquitos! Do they

wear bright colored capes? LOL
