My Saturday Six (can't believe I'm first!)

My Sunday Six

1. Went to a food bloggers' picnic organized by a lovely editor at Hearst who knows how to throw a party in a park. Lots of very talented people there; the surprise hit was watermelon macerated with tequila. Everyone got on FAMOUSLY. smileys/wink.gif))) (The watermelon helped.)

2. Broiled steak and made spinach spaetlze for a pre-anniversary dinner. Czech husband pronounces spaetzle as "really good." WIN. smileys/wink.gif I'll never reveal to him that the recipe came from a Whole Foods recipe book.

3. Going to "volunteer" tomorrow at a food website (which is run out of the director's home) as part of my ploy to get a job there. We'll see. (It's The Nibble.) Wish me luck.

4. Marion Burros's Plum Cake recipe is foolproof. I love it. Also works great with nectarines and peaches.

5. Red wine makes life liveable.

6. Chocolate makes life liveable. (Sorry to be such a cliche.)

Ok, now I don't feel so bad for having paid $6 for organic yogurt, last week.

Tilapia gelatin belongs at El Bulli...

Sunday night six...

Well, it's kinda late but I just had to share a few things...

First of all, I've been so busy that I haven't posted here in way too long but I think of y'all a LOT!

I may have mentioned getting this amazing book at the recommendation of Ron Zimmerman of Herbfarm - Auberge of the Flowering Hearth. It is fantastic! I want to crawl between the cover of this book and never come out.

Out of the zillion recipes in there I want to make, I started with the whole wheat walnut bread, designed to be consumed with smears of delectable French cheese. It lives up to its description. It is fantastic.

I brought the walnut bread to a picnic Saturday at Fort Ross with some new friends. I also made a batch of fudgy brownies with sticky espresso salt sprinkled on top. Sooo good! This simple healthy bread was incredible with the goat cheese log I rolled in fines herb, and the St Andre my friends brought. The bottle of prosecco was a perfect match, as was my friends roast chicken. The fog rolled in as the brownies were unwrapped. Next time I picnic on the Sonoma coast I am going to pack a thermos of hot tea! Brrr!

Today I took the rest of the brownies to my friends in Marin and we sipped chilled Alsacian wine and discussed our reactions to the Harry Potter movie was saw that afternoon. 'Twas a beautiful weekend.

Tomorrow, blueberry pancakes at Mel's Diner with a former beau and his darling wife, a knitting friend too. Then a hot dog in the fog at the Giants game. My packing list for this game is just so funny I have to share: heavy fleece jacket, hat, gloves, thermal l/s shirt, heavy jeans, hiking boots, Alpaca socks, Russian mohair shawl or orange pashmina, Pendelton lap robe and totebag with current knitting projects (it's the Stitch and Pitch game). Summer in San Francisco!!!

Hope you all have a good week.

silly me. I thought yogurt was just yogurt. note to self, must read ingredients---not just

nutrition info.

Erin, StoneyField used to make a sheep's milk yogurt that was to live for! if you can find, you

really should try it. they don't have stoney field on the west coast and I sure miss that one! I used to get in a health food store run by an Ashram in Chelsea.

Pat, just home from the game and I used all the layers I brought, plus

a most welcome cup of hot cocoa during the 6th inning. The fog was thick and swirling around the field, brrr! Home now to more tea and a hot water bottle on my cold feet. Can't wait for September when we get a spot of summer. Send me dome warm air please!!

Thanks, Randi, we've got StonyField here, but I'm now addicted to the local stuff. smileys/smile.gif)) NY cows have

attitude. (Atti-mood?)
