My Saturday Six (chop, chop - it's almost Sunday!)

#1 - my new favorite summertime drink - unsweetened iced tea made with very dilute limeade - I, alone, could drink a quart at a time )

#2 - went to a nearby suburb to see Sarah Palin speak but getting a sunburn because I forgot the sunblock for myself!! I roasted my face. I could be a beacon in the storm. WHERE'S. MY. ALOE. owww

#3 - on the way home, saw for the first time in my life a drive-thru ice cream stand (now how lazy is that, but we were pooped by that time) and had a bubble gum-flavored ice cream on the way home

#4 - forgot all about the "Taste of Syracuse" today where local restaurants lined up along the main downtown street and you could get a sample of their signature foods for $1 each. Kevin Costner and his band played at the event (how I foget that?!)

#5 - also forgot about the Wizard of Oz parade in another suburb (Frank Baum was born here)... who would've thought you could see Kevin Costner, Sarah Palin, and 2 Munchkins (real ones, that starred in the movie) within a 30-mile radius on the same day?

#6 - bought 3 whoopie pies that must've been at least a half-pound each! I'd raise an eyebrow, but I can't, see #2

My Saturday Six.... done with cooking for the rest of the weekend

beautiful southern Calif. morning, sitting outside doing devotion and watching the dog protect his backyard from those vicious sparrows

finished making a key lime pie for luncheon - friend moving to Florida so it seemed appropriate

decided at last minute that it just wasn't 'dessert' without chocolate... made chocolate curls for pie

had a lovely luncheon with 5 friends.... awwwww.... nothing better

watched a couple episodes of Monk and spent quality laptime with the dog (after all, I was gone for several hours... poor thing)

came home and threw my teriyaki marinated wings into the oven - smells good... must be almost done - time to roast the broccoli

My Saturday Six

1. Have eaten almost all the leftovers; DH is having leftover birthday pizza for dinner (which he didn't get to eat on his birthday because he got called out to a fire).

2. Made comfort food on Friday: baked chicken with mushroom soup.

3. Had the Best.Pineapple.Ever. this week. Soooo sweet.

4. Must buy eggs. I am lost without eggs.

5. Started the baby on rice cereal and pears this week.

6. Going to a wedding tomorrow--no need to cook dinner. Woo hoo!

My Saturday Six

Well let's start with Friday afternoon, really:

1. Had a great lunch with Erin while it poured outside, we had gnocchi and ravioli...

2. Had a horrible dinner at horrible resto (bbq was cancelled due to said rain)

3. Woke up to a lovely prosciutto and parmesan omelette courtesy of husband

4. Ordered new bathroom fixtures and lighting

5. Took Gomez for a big run at local dog park

6. Had an excellent dinner at Prime and Beyond a meat market with a small resto attached to it in Fort Lee - owner is Koren and an expert in meat and meat cuts - got a good lesson in aging and a new type of beef called Washyugu, wagyu style beef from Oregon Fedexed daily to him - delicious!

My Saturday Six

I wish I had gotten a sunburn with you today, Dawn!!

Got up, after sleeping ALL NIGHT without getting up and had a perfectly wonderful cantelope.

Went in to Austin for the Photo Expo! Sat in on two great lighting lectures and bought a little purse camera -- also -- got a monopod for ten bucks!!

DH and I went to P Terrys for a great burger

marinated some chicken thighs for satay tomorrow

just finished The Thirteenth Tale for book club tomorrow night -- a pretty dark tale. Hope we pick a more upbeat selection for the next one.

Sandra, wasn't the big BBQ thing going on in NYC this weekend? If you see the Salt Lick there, be sure and sample it!! YUMMY

My Sunday Six

1. Going to buy my garden plants to put in the garden, finally.

2. Mother-In-Law bought house and is back in San Diego getting ready to move, so I can have a leisurely cup of coffee this morning without trying to clean something before my MIL does.

3. Quiet day today and it is needed by all.

4. I am going to make out a menu for the week to make it easier to cook for everyone.

5. Thinking about what to cook today. I feel like chicken soup for some odd reason. I think I am going to make Moyn's with the dill. I love that flavor combination.

Oh! Probably like a tripod with only one leg? I was thinking iPod-something. lol

But then how do you get it to stand up?

My Sunday Six

- Kicking myself because I did not by the fancy jam jars at a garage sale...The ones with the fancy clip; 11 for $5.00...What was I thinking...went back 1/2 hour later, of course they were gone...

- Making the ham today that Curious1 suggested on the bbq...I have asked dh if he can mimic the voice.

- Not happy with the progress that the black/purple tomato plant. Pat inspired me to try it; nothing happening there....Grape tomatoes are having lots of lil green tomatoes. (Very exciting!)

- At church, dh just invited my parents for dinner, for above mentioned ham...(He did use "the voice" in the invite...) BUT, not discussed beforehand...Now, have to think of sides, ...(and Dust/vacuum, etc!...not really but still!!)

- Have a fancy frother for our milk for coffee....Why is it that ShopRite milk does not froth; while stop and shop does?

- Purple Basil - Found a plant at a nursery....I really think I need an intervention for this gardening thing!

Did you know that lower fat milk froths better than whole milk?

When at the Opera the guy from Milan who taught me to use the fancy espresso machine bought for us by the Board president (he loved a cappuccino at his meetings so I *had* to have barista training- what a goofy job) included frothing techniques in his lessons. 2% milk works best for frothing! Maybe the fat content varies just a bit between the milk at your two stores....

My Sunday Six

I love this new tradition of Saturday (Sunday) Six posts! So nice to focus on the good stuff and get to know everyone better.

Today is an Argentinian asada party, I'm so excited to be going. My friends have entered the chimichurri contest and started making 5 lbs of chimichurri at 11:30 pm last night! Can't wait to try it, and everyone elses, and eat steak! I'm watching the clock...

This morning I'm making eggs poached in a mild chipotle salsa for breakfast.

I love my cat but he keeps waking me up at 7 am by standing on my chest, all 20 lbs of purring meows. I want to fling him off the bed but he's too heavy ( and too cute). Will I ever be able to sleep in??? smileys/smile.gif

Had a lovely supper at a friends yesterday to watch the Belmont races. Fun race, great food and great conversations. We had too many bourbons though, mercifully I passed on the Tuoca, imagine???

We are planning a biscotti party next month, should be great fun, does anyone have a killer recipe I could try? Susan in Kentfield shared with me two good ones but that was years ago and I think they are in that dreaded huge pile of Swap recipes I printed off. Does anyone else have a mound like this?

The parrots are hanging out on the fire escape so I can't go in the kitchen, don't want to scare them off! I have named them Heckle and Jeckle because they laugh so much. So pretty, large bright green birds with orange heads. They live in a palm tree across the street, an offshoot of the Telegraph Hill flock.

Just finished The Thirteenth Tale for my book club too!

Then had to work late on a project and couldn't go. Listened to it in the car...I'm on an audiobook kick right now. Not what I was expecting but I liked it.

My Sunday Six

1. Took an extra long walk with the dog and husband this morning, very cool, sunny morning.
2. Eating leftovers, don't have to cook, but did make a wonderful cucumber, red onion, dill, and sour cream side dish,
3. Had a long talk with our daughter who lives in Ohio, School is out, she has the summer off. Loved hearing her talk about cleaning house and planting a garden.
4. Trying to build up my courage to ride a beautiful new bike, husband bought me for Christmas. Spent the last six months getting over two surgeries for a broken wrist, and it has made me a little bit of a chicken.
5. Looking forward to our 46th wedding anniversary at the end of this month.
6. Need to plan a dinner for friends who are going to be gone for three months on a RV trip.

My Sunday Six

1) Just got this cute video from a friend which made me smile and had to share; And yes, apparently I was born this way. Thank goodness we've figured that out! smileys/smile.gif

2) Yesterday got the car smogged - finally.

3) Today, car wash & libary for audiobooks

4) Go check out new local produce store, saw neighbors @ garage sale yesterday (woo-hoo didn't buy anything) told me they have great avacados cheap -- this may be the start of a beautiful relationship.

5) Go to TJ's. My TJ's just doubled in size (took over the place next door). It is both huge and "Hey, where'd ya put everything?" Must go wander and find out.

6) Meet-up later with friends to show them how to use eBay.

PS Just found out about a big reunion of old co-workers in 2 weeks. Note to self: lose 30 lbs by then...er...yeah, I'll get right on that.

Good to know...Will be a fun experiment. Only normally have whole, but will give it a shot! Tx

My Sunday Six...with thanks to FloriSandy for her HCV

(Heavy Cream Validation) for:

1. Chicken Tikka Masala. Wow...this is definitely a keeper. Pimped Larry to butcher a whole chicken for the breasts. Difference in price: 25 cents an ounce for boneless skinless breasts versus 10 cents an ounce for large fryers. A whole chicken with 2 large half breasts cost the same as 3 small half breasts (with cutlets gone)...plus the rest of the chicken is in the freezer for another meal.
2. Basmati Rice with peas
3. Raita (Greek yogurt with diced English cucumber and chopped kaffir/lime fried peanuts)
4. Pine nut hummus with wholewheat wraps
5. Fresh mango slices
6. Mid-day smoothie with fresh mango, fresh peach, frozen Manzanita banana, honey yogurt, dollop of apricot jam, orange-blood soda to thin, a scoop of protein whey and ice cubes.

Loved that book. Isn't the reader great for the unabridged! (Bianca Amato)

I've been trying to figure out who would play the leads for the movie. Great role for an iconic actress.
