My weekend 6...
Sort of a sad weekend, as the produce season is revving up for most of you, mine is winding down. Probably the last weekend I'll be able to get the beautiful straight from the field organic lettuces and I'll also miss their spinach, arugula, kale, beets, turnips and herbs, such as cilantro, that I'm not currently growing.
Another favorite produce stand closed Saturday and the proprietors are looking for a new venue. Not sure where or when that will be. They're my source for fresh tomatoes almost year round. First Florida, then GA, TN, and NC. Nice eggplants and in season, red peppers 2 or 3 for $1. Yesterday they were selling GA tomatoes and peaches for .99 a lb. I'll be grocery store dependent for produce for awhile, definitely not a good thing here in Florida.
Went to Sam's club hoping they'd have more of the wonderful halibut I've found a couple of times at their weekend seafood kiosk. Not only was there no halibut or wild salmon, there was no seafood kiosk at all. Maybe next week. Got red grouper at Publix instead.
What am I going to do with the lone yellow squash languishing in the crisper?
Why is there no standard weight/measurement for grated cheese? I've seen cheddar listed at everywhere from 3 to 8 ounces per cup. Very unhelpful when recipes only give the cup meansurement. Same with parm, plus it depends on which tool I use to grate it. Yeah, I know...a bit OCD going on.
Looking forward to slow-roasting Plum tomatoes to stash in the freezer. I couldn't pass them up at .99 a lb.
