We had a great cat named Uno, who thought our Rottweiler (Siggy) was her mother. She nursed her after her puppies left. The "Dad" of the pups was a huge great dane/golden lab who walked over the fence around our yard and came into our kitchen where we had Siggy confined/ She was too young to breed, but not to conceive. The owners of the dog thought it was funny -- she was pure bred and after the encounter would have nothing to do with any other dog. ARRGGHH. Well, to make matters worse, one day Uno ventured outside the yard -- just over the fence, and was spotted by the dog (can't remember his name) who promptly grabbed her by the neck and shook her to death.
DH kept his b-b gun handy and put a little buckshot in his rear when he had the chance.

That's just terrible and I'm so sorry Randi!
Randi, that's horrible...
Animal abuse, from any source, is deplorable. I hope something can be done about the cause of your grief.
I had a call from my daughter who had spent a long time at the vet with a barn cat that had been shot. The vet said that from the size of the wound, it had to have been a very close shot...as is standing over the animal.
Makes me want to put on my big boots and go kick some a$$.
Vet bills will be $1000 or more.
Hoping perpetrator is caught, so bills are passed on.

thanks everyone, it really pushed my buttons, big time, yesterday.
a friend of the owner lives at the house to take care of the dogs. I'm sure he knows what happened and they got Rex out of there. but, it's just a matter of time and they will get Rex, Keri always gets her dog!
for those of you who voiced concern about small children, I brought that up at the hearing. the owner said Rex was good with children. I pointed out that may be true but put a small child with a small dog or puppy and there's no telling what could go down. especially since Rex was going for small dogs with their owners there.
it's just a sad situation all around for all the animals concerned. but, if Rex lives, more little ones die.... sigh...

I'll get my boots on too! there is no excuse for that kind of abuse. here, they do prosecute
abusers and that's helped somewhat but still, it's an unimaginable thing to do to an innocent animal.
as long as I've already "outed" myself with animal communication, I'll tell you about this one.
a friend of mine was called to get a rescued, very prego, cat. she took the cat right to the vet. she was overdue and they did an emergency c-section and there was a dead kitten in the birth canal that had blocked the others. two others died within 24 hours and another was born with a huge hernia. they couldn't operate on him until he was 3 mos old.
a week later, although safe in my friend's home, the momma was still distressed and I was asked to "talk" with her. Ann knew her leg had been injured as she had a bad limp. when I was able to "connect" with the momma she told me: "I heard a very loud noise and my leg burned and I feel down. when I was down, the man kicked me in my kittens." an exray showed she had been shot and the kick explained the dead and injured kittens. it was just heartbreaking!
Ann would email me pics of the kittens over the next few months and I just had a thing for the little one with the hernia. his name is now Shante and he turned two the end of March smileys/smile.gif no one wanted to adopt him cause he was just another tabby. he's an amazing creature.

Same thing happened to my sister's cat years ago. They never were able to do anything about it...so more power to you!!!

Well, some dogs, like some people, just go wrong and sadly there's nothing to be done but
what needs to be done in this case. That dog is a menace and it's so sad that you and your neighbors have had their own pets lives at risk and lost due to irresponsibility of another neighbor... I hope it all comes to a conclusion soon. (((hugs))) I've got tears in my eyes for your little Jessie...
