NFRC Any golfers here? I just saw Tiger Woods at the 13th hole

I also ran smack into Whoopi one day in a casino in Vegas - neither of us were watching

where we were going. She had her whole entourage with her and I remember thinking how really short she is.

Living in L.A., I occasionally see *stars* in Trader Joes, restaurants, or LAX... always leave them

alone, though. I feel sorry for people who are so recognizable that they can't even go to the grocery store in peace.

I was on a flight from Frankfurt (?) with Gregory Hines, once. Obvs. he was in 1st class, though. smileys/wink.gif

Annie Lennox walked by me on my street in Queens. I came home

and screamed about it, called friends; husband said, "Who's Annie Lennox?"

Also... Katie Holmes in Union Square with her daughter...

I think Bob Hope nearly ran over my dad at a crosswalk in L.A., once.

I thought the exact same thing about how short she is! She came into the kitchen

at Bern's restaurant in Tampa...no eyebrows and so short! Big smile, though.

George Bush, Senior (same restaurant) but that was a bit annoying because Secret Service guys were everywhere.

Shook hands with Franco Harris on home turf (downtown Pittsburgh)

Giggled with Jonathan Winters in an elevator at an antique show in Pittsburgh.

Stood next to Jessica Lange, Sam Sheppard, daughter Sasha (Mikhail Baryshnikov's the dad) and Harry Dean Stanton in Santa Fe while waiting to eat at The Shed. I poked Larry in the side and said "someone should tell this woman she looks like Jessica Lange." Larry leaned over and said, "that's because she IS Jessica Lange."

I can be forgiven this faux pas because the woman standing next to me had horse poop all over her boots, dirty jeans, 3" of dark brown hair roots, no makeup and was standing next to a man (Sam) whose front teeth were both cracked off. Not exactly star-studded looks.

to bad, he was so nice and obviously, interesting. he and his wife started the

conversation smileys/smile.gif they also lived in the Village.

The strangest moments in TV history involve David Bowie, IMHO. When I was a kid...

...I used to watch the old Mike Douglas Show. You probably remember the talk/variety show that was on for years.

Mike Douglas used to have guest hosts that would join him for a week at a time. David Bowie came on one week. Very odd. Douglas was so straight-laced and Bowie made a tidy little living being "out there".

Then there's always the televised duet with Bowie and Bing Crosby singing "The Little Drummer Boy" on a Christmas Special.

Randi, were Ann Meara and Jerry Stiller living on Grove when you were there? She operated..

the theatre situated right off of Bleeker.

I know you remember Grandpa's--with the limo's outside BG.

I saw Mathew Broderick in Rocco's eating a cannoli.

Mario was often sitting in the window at Po sipping something. Saw Edward James Olmos at Po once.

is that the Cherry Lane theater you're talking about? loved that little theater, is it still

there?

no, I don't think we there at the same time.

I was walking to the subway one morning, going to work, and there was a limo still parked outside Grandpa's and it looked like the driver was asleep. got home to find that he was actually dead and it was a mob hit.

Grandpa's was a very interesting place and I sometimes wondered why they didn't take their conversations to one of, the more private, social clubs.

the kitchen in Po was really small!

Whoppie had a place in the Village and I see her often. I was always sorry I never stopped her and thanked her for all the joy she had given. she really was very friendly and lots of the locals kidded around with her.

ah, Roccos!

Your experience with Jessica Lange reminded me of a Milton Berle quip.

He was asked why he remarried his first wife years later. He said something like, "I dunno. She just reminded me so much of my first wife".

Silly.

Michael

I presume you served Kung POW Chicken?? Way back in the late 80's, I worked as a

personal bookkeeper/secretary for a multi-millionaire a half block away from his former home in the Voken Tract section of Cherry Hill, NJ.

Major Coxson was murdered in Ali's house in 1973 according to Wikipedia. I remember the incident but someone at Wiki disputes the location.

Clint Eastwood used to fly into Redding all the time at the flight service we owned at the time

he has a ranch in the foothills here. Our employees were instructed to keep this info to themselves and leave him alone. I went up once to see him and peered down from my husbands office. Another time he come up with his girlfriend and she was rushed to the hospital to have her baby! It was all over the papers, but only after they had left town. I was changing planes in Denver and saw Victoria Principal....she is so skinny.
The Hearst family also have a castle up here, but I have never seen any of them

Oh, and did I tell you when I was 18 or 19 I took a part-time restaurant cashier job working

for the... Gambino family? - Ooops!!

Imagine my astonishment years and years later when I see a documentary on A & E of THE Gambino family! LOL

P.S. I didn't know my employer's name until after I worked there.

Anyone remember the 80's - 90's rock group, The Smithereens? Their guitarist, Jim Babjak...

...is the brother of one of my neighbors. I met him and his wife when they were in town and my friends invited us over for a barbecue. My neighbor introduced him as, "my brother, the rock star". They kidded back and forth all night, as only siblings can.

Not a Whoopie or a Clint, but I always liked his music.

Michael
PS: Jim is the guy on the left, playing guitar and singing harmony.

Naaah, they don't

scare me! I only worked there about a week - up until their contracted valet service cracked up the hood of my Datsun 260Z 2+2 sports car and I got no satisfaction from "them" nor the valet service.

I was just a peon to them and I knew nothing of importance. Right Gambinos?? - Right??? {{{shudder}}}
