My family is having a difficult Christmas, and although I'm not a religious person perhaps some prayers or good thoughts will help.
My mom, who was diagnosed with diabetes last month (and is doing well), had an abnormal mammogram last week, and they did a stereo-image x-ray kind of exam with a needle biobsy then, and yesteday got the call that she had to see the doctor today. They have found breast cancer on one side and it's supposed to be in situ and not spreading. She's scheduled for surgery in early January and may possibly need radiation. If the pathology after the surgery shows there is more cancer than what they have seen then they will want to do a masectomy. Her sister had breast cancer five years ago, and after a double masectomy and a year of chemo she is fine. But after hearing of my aunt, my mom announced that if she gets cancer like that she will not pursue treatment. She is going to have the lumpectomy but doesn't want radiation, if they recommend it. She has asked that we all just forget this for now and have a good Christmas, but I'm having a hard time doing that - fortunately it's pouring so I'm going out in the rain for "fresh air" and let the rain wipe away any sogginess on my face. Then back in the house Chin Up and carrying on as per usual.
Thank you for letting me share this with you, it is such a lonely forlorn time, when we should be happy and grateful to be together and counting our blessings, but instead we are all trying not to think of anything and dance around the elephant in the room.
