Northwest Roundup?

So there's been some talk about out Northwest get together...and I do believe serendipity has just struck.

About an hour outside Seattle, my friends are putting the finishing touches on a cabin available for rent. 2400 square feet, 3 bedrooms. I imagine the beds will be large (sharing possibilites?), and we could always do air matresses in the rec room.

I'd be more than happy to provide tours of Seattle & steer ya'll to the spots with the best provisions. smileys/smile.gif

Wow, looks very doable, kitchen looks like it could fit several cooks at once? Saved.

Have any idea when? I'm probably flying to Portland to see my aunt...

who had a stroke, but will have to work around the Jamaica trip. Probably end of Jan or Feb. I'll be driving up to Arlington, WA to visit my girlie friend so it might just work out!

Any idea on costs, etc?

Sounds great! smileys/smile.gif

I can probably get a deal on the cabin...the question is, when do you want to come? I vote for post-

snow days. Late July and August are stunning here. We can hit up the farmer's markets and spend a weekend cooking up a storm....

And if you'd be interested, I used to be a guest chef booker for a cooking school, so if you'd want a class or something, I could probably get a chef to come out for about $200 (the going fee here in Seattle). Depending on who all seriously wants to come, that could be very reasonable.

Gayle, sounds like you'll be passing through Seattle. I'd love to meet up, if your schedule works.

I'd love to, Traca! Just not sure when I'll be there.

I have 3 places to be in the time that I'm there, then back to Portland to visit my aunt again before leaving. Nothing's set in stone of course. I have to wait to see how everything plays out.

I'll be in and out of OR/WA long before summer but one never knows...maybe I'll be back!

I vote for having Gabe come out from CC! THAT would be a hoot! smileys/smile.gif And I'd bet he'd love to do it!

Wait for July/August? Awww. smileys/wink.gif I can certainly help with the Seattle tours...

... I end up doing them for all my non-Seattle friends when they come, too. Snoqualmie isn't far from Roslyn, and while it's not a culinary paradise, there are often people who really want to go there. lol

Let's see, places to go...

* Pike Place Market (of course)
* Sur La Table in the Market (since it's the original)
* The Herbfarm (pricey, but wonderful)
* Space Needle? (pricey, was pretty good last time I was there, but not fantabulous)
* Mario Batali's dad's place (that's near the market, yes?)
* Big John's PFI

There are LOTS of places to go...

Roslyn! be still my heart! I'm a hopeless Northern Exposure fan. been there,

have the glass and the t-shirt and the picture by the mural. could go again in a heartbeat.

Can we invite Chris? (thumpety thump goes the heartstrings)

he was my favorite on the show, but I loved that show so much! Sounds like a fun outing... Just as long as we can visit the fish market and cook seafood from there - everytime I visit I bemoan the fact that I can't buy anything for dinner that night!

What's the name of that great chef, he looks like a lumberjack, huge with shaggy reddish blonde hair, he has a great restaurant in Seattle - do you know who I mean? his black cod dish was amazing and I kick myself that I didn't buy his book when I was there cause he could have autographed it.
