Julie...this is a good list for starters...a few more thoughts...
The Space Needle is not worth eating at. They have the location and have never bothered to serve memorable food. I believe reservations are now required.
And the Herbfarm has a new chef. Jerry Traunfeld is the chef that put that place on the map and he now has his own place...Poppy. Prix fixe menu at Poppy is a much more affordable $35.
I would also recommend:
- Touring Theo's Chocolate Factory (first organic fair trade chocolate factory in the US. I know the COO and chief scientist there so we can grab a tour from Andy.)
- Chocolopolis: Premium chocolate retailer on Queen Anne who does tastings of 5 different premium chocolates side by side for $5. We can also book a private tasting with the owner, Lauren, who sources the chocolate.
- Seattle Caviar: They have tastings of 5 different caviars with champaign for $20.
- Chinatown: Very walkable, super fun. Friends and I have been doing what we call a "grub crawl." 10 of us go to a restaurant, get 5-7 dishes, share them and then move on to another restaurant. We usually manage to get 3 stops in before crying mercy! Lots of good shopping in this area as well.
- ZigZag: A bar on the national radar for their cocktails. Their mixologist, Murray, is the stuff of legends....
- Farmer's Markets, for sure! (Travel & Leisure just named our farmer's markets the best in the country.)
- If anyone is into beer & wine, we could also arrange for tastings on that note as well.
- Bakery Nouveau is also worth a stop. My friend William runs that place and he was the captain of the world champion baking team in 2005 (CHAMPION DU MONDE de la BOULANGERIE). Let's just say...his pastries don't suck. smileys/smile.gif
- Stumptown Coffee is arguably the best coffee in the United States. They source single orgin coffees directly from the growers and roast it themselves. (Duane, the owner is so particular about his coffee, he won't mail it. So he has a full roasting operation is Portland, OR and built another one here in Seattle.) Coffee cuppings are free, Tuesday - Sunday at 3:00.
- World Spice Merchants is a small locally owned spice shop that sources their spices direct from origin. Without the middleman, their spices are very affordable and frankly, don't get much fresher. They also have a nice selection of teas.
- Speaking of teas, if anyone is interested in tea, I have several friends who are over the top on this subject and would love nothing more than to do a tasting with us. (We could even have them meet us at the cabin...)
