Question. If you could take a cooking class from anyone (alive), who would it be...and why?

I would like to see the Queen of Sheba....... I'll PM you directions to our house.....

she smiled innocently....

Randi, make that a CHEAP Queen of Sheba. ROFL ROFL ROFL.

I can only imagine the outfit that comes with that trick. : ) I am seeing something in a purple lame though...

Yeah, the Orcas are quite spectacular. We have 3 pods in the area and since

I'm a scuba diver, I've seen them a number of times when we've been out boating. Once I was on a dive trip off Vancouver Island and we jumped in to play with a pod of dahl's porpoises. They showed little interest in us and quickly moved on. Once we got back in the boat...we figured out why. A hunting pod of Orcas passed us by shortly afterwards!

I've seen the grey whales up here too. Not quite the same as Orcas... smileys/smile.gif

Down in your area, do you have the haystack rocks out in the ocean? Those are so beautiful. I keep meaning to get out the coast more, but it seems in the summer, I spend a lot of time out on the islands instead. Hmm...I see a road trip in my future!

Have you been to the farmer's market in Portland? I hear that's amazing! We have several here in Seattle and each one has it's own "personality." I love getting to know the farmers and seeing their offerings change throughout the seasons.

LOL, you've got me ....cheap to the last detail.

And by the way, I'm from Torrance, CA. I don't even know where Sheba is.

yes, lots of rocky cliffs along the ocean and on the beaches. haystack is north of us. if you

do head south, be sure to let me know and we can plan something smileys/smile.gif

I've included a link to my husband's photography, if you go to "galleries" there are lots of pics of our area.

I haven't been to the Portland mkt in a few years, it's 3 hrs each way from us. and yes, it's wonderful!

then you have an invitation smileys/smile.gif don't know if this interests you at all. they are about

45 min south east of us and we are going there saturday. I've been talking with Lois and there is a litter of wolf pups that she will actually let me hold.... I'm soooo excited!

Don has permission to photograph the pack and I'll post the good ones.

Wow! That's amazing. I'll be really curious to hear what their fur feels like.

From a distance, I'd imagine it feels soft, but since they're out in the moist conditions, I bet it's more wirey than I'd expect. I can't *wait* to see photos!!

I had no idea that a) there were white wolves and b) there was a sanctuary dedicated to it. How did you get connected with these folks?

Nick is fantastic!

I haven't taken a baking class with him, but I had lunch with him in NYC. A wonderful friend of mine had done some food styling for him, and when we were in the city, she called Nick. He graciously agreed to meet us for lunch, and it was just fantabulous.
He is so down to earth, has a super, dry sense of humor, and tells great stories.
He's also fun to wander the ethnic markets with...
I canjust imagine how wonderful his classes are.

Another great baker who teaches well and has much to share with students is Peter Reinhart. If you have a chance, take one of his classes.
