the last two meals I cooked were just gak :-0 they were so bad that

actually, that is a fantastic combo with sauteed greens, sans cauliflower. just chop a clove or two

of garlic, sautee in olive oil with pine nuts, raisins, and throw in some anchovies. sautee for a couple of min until the garlic and nuts start to color. add scliced romain lettuce or escarole and sautee until wilted and serve. you can add some grated parm when it's plated.

it's an old Italian recipe smileys/smile.gif

I would have been very happy with "boring" LOL it took sucking on a lemon and a

slice of watermellon to get the taste out.

it just may be the fish. I'll do the shrimp tomorrow after approprate sacrifices have been made to appease the gods of edible cuisine!

Indeed. I've done that.

Whoops. Too many fingers.

It's like a Sicilian pasta. It was good.

But easy on the anchovies.

I hate when a good sounding recipe turns out to be...

a total loser.
It seems like the longer it took you to make, the more likely that is to happen.
Makes me want to shun all labor-intensive recipes. OK, not just yet, but life is short, ya know??? (I'll wait for Marc to make them for me when we visit) smileys/smile.gif

let's have a sing-along.... one..... two.... three strikes you're out in the oooold

food game! even my pesto wasn't great :-0

I hope that this is the end of whatever the heck is happening in my kitchen... or not happening '-))

I even suggested we go to dinner last night, thinking that Don, being an intelligent man, would jump at the chance to be saved from another disaster.

we discussed the gak food and concluded that the oil for the smelts wasn't quite hot enough and they really were too big for that type of cooking. as for the orange roughy, Don said that the gak reaction is nature's way of saving you from death.... what every cook loves to hear! smileys/wink.gif)

then we got into dinners. he doesn't consider pasta dishes a main course. he doesn't like courses but prefers one dish meals. (this, after 14 years together, go figure.) if pasta is to be a main course than it would have to be a meat sauce. this sauce is achived by frying up ground beef and throwing a jar of sauce over it. he did say I make really good chicken but.... he doesn't like chicken. OK, if ya don't like how can it be really good?

I didn't grow up with one dish meals so I'm at a bit of a loss there. gonna have to search T&T and my books. he thinks that one dish meals are really easy to make. (refer to recipe for meat sauce mentioned above.) the ones that I have made can take a lot longer than an entree with sides.

oh well, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this smileys/smile.gif

I love one-dish meals, too, since I don't usually have time to cook more. I like

curries and stews--these always make good leftovers. Strange that he doesn't consider pasta a main course. That's sort of the archetypical one-dish meal, isn't it?

Oh my! Does this ever sound good. I'll just put this in the "we can have

a little treat once in awhile" file. Soon...LOL Thanks for the link Joe.

Oh honey, you're ego is just a little bruised. You'll be OK. We've all been

there. Just pick yourself up, brush yourself off and jump back in. And in the mean time, I'll look through my favorite one dish recipes for you. Throw him one once in a while and then cook something that fills the creativeness in you!

Orchid, if it's carbs you're avoiding, you can leave out the starch. smileys/wink.gif

yeah, go figure with the pasta! Orchid, they really were bad meals, gakked me too.

the up-side, I'm going to learn to make some new things that are different my usual selections. he does like chicken pot pies, it's just meat that you have to cut with a knife and fork he doesn't like. he was raised vegitarian so, with the occasionl filet mignon exception, he prefers it to part of a dish.

I have offered to cut his meat for him... '-))

annd, we are sooo going out to dinner tonight!

How about some hearty one-dish vegetarian recipes? I have some great ones, such as

Vegetable Couscous Paella, Vegetarian Chili, Black Bean Patties with Cilantro and Lime. Also, Vegetarian Tortilla Soup, which is very chunky, between a soup and a stew. Let me know if you want me to post any of these.

So, fambe-ing will get folks out of your way in the kitchen. this should be in Kitchen Tips : )
