Vintage Copco skillet + question

Maybe this is silly, but behold! I found this massive (12") vintage Copco skillet on eBay a couple weeks ago, and, after waiting two weeks for it to wend its way from New Jersey via parcel post (i.e., burro?), I finally received it yesterday and am planning to inaugurate it with a giant Dutch baby this weekend. smileys/smile.gif

It's in excellent condition (not bad for $30, including shipping--this sucker weighs a ton), but my only question is: do I need to wrap the wooden handle in foil before putting it in a 425-degree oven? smileys/irritated.gif

Beautiful pan! If there is no way to unscrew the handle from it,

Not sure if I'd try putting it in the oven with the handle, it might scorch, and would definitely dry out the wood over time.

If you use the foil, maybe try wrapping the handle first with a damp cloth, then the foil. Use several layers of heavy-duty stuff.

I have to admit I'd be too chicken to try it...LOL

I used to sell Copco, years ago. I wouldn't put the wooden handle in the oven. Won't be pretty.

By the way, I have the 16" version of that pan. Same color and everything. Nice pan, huh?

Now I just need to make sure I don't grab the handle. But yes, I love this pan!

A 16" must be lovely--though this one already dwarfs my largest (electric) burner. smileys/frown.gif

I'm vintage too. I made my way with old pans. They were Dansk, always with advice never put in oven

if the pans included wooden handles. Even the silicone handles now are only allowed up to 350.

Great skillet!! And kudos for you to find a way to remove the handle!!! Nicely done!

Now..... What to make in it first!

Thanks! We made a big Dutch Baby. smileys/smile.gif Saturday-morning family tradition that I really missed doing!

(Ok, yes, you can make a Dutch Baby in a pie plate, but I don't have any old Pyrex, and apparently those are the only kind that won't explode if you preheat them and then add fairly cold liquid.) This did great, though! smileys/smile.gif
