Weekend Six

I think it might be the Rotel.

The original has a bit of a kick to it so I imagine the hot would be even more so. Then add in the chipotle and I think you are right, it would be HOT. The recipe as written is a medium and if you used two mild Rotels and either half of a jalapeno or even just skipped it, you would end up with a mild salsa. If you make it again, let me know how you made it.

The sandwich looks really good and the rye loaf looks even better.

I think I may have to try this one out. I just need to find a source for rye flour. Does rye flour go rancid easily? I have some in my pantry but I think it is probably at least 6 months old or older. Would it still be good to use? Thanks for the link Ang.

My Weekend Six

1) I'm sick today. My body is sore and I think I have gotten bronchities. I am tucked under a blanket on the couch and I feel immensly sorry for myself. I have had several cups of herbal tea today, but tea doesn't seem to help.

2) I have eaten too many saffron chocolate biscotti today. I baked a double batch yesterday and I have eaten half a box. But hey, I'm sick. I deserve it.

3) DH took both the dogs outside skiing today. My body is sore and because of my bronchities he didn't want me to go outside today. He is such a great care taker, my DH. I must remember this day next time I feel like pinching his head off.

4) DH offered to cook dinner today. We are making the fabulous tomato sauce posted on here some days ago (or was it last week?). It's the tomato sauce with butten and a whole onion. It's very good, and we're having it with pasta.

5) We (DH and I) went to a friends house for dinner last night and we had the best pasta ever. Her husband had made home made spaghetti for us, and it was so good that DH said he want us to buy a pasta machine so we can make fresh pasta at home.

6) I don't think I'll reach a number six today. I'm sick and I feel so sorry for myself I think I'll just stick to my box of biscotti and have DH wait on me for the rest of the day.

Eva, I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you should make yourself or

have your DH make you a hot toddy. At least then you could get some sleep. Or maybe some nice hot soup. Try putting a hot water bottle or heating pad on your chest. It might help with the bronchitis and it would at least feel good. (((Eva)))

It's reaaly really good, just not for wimps. will use 2 regular rotel's next time. will try adding

some roasted tomatoes that I have in the freezer.

Sunday Six...after a long hiatus.

1. Made serious risotto last night for my brother's last night with us after a month in the city for an internship. smileys/frown.gif

2. Working 9-6 has had a terrible effect on my desire to cook anything...anytime. It's not that I'm in a rut--it's that I now avoid cooking. The last time I flipped through a cookbook was ages ago. Solutions?

3. Planned to make biscotti this weekend, but husband consumed the chocolate-marzipan bar that was destined for it... smileys/wink.gif

4. NFRC: I hate winter. Or maybe just working in winter.

5. Pretty sure 1-4, in total, call for a good steak as an initial remedy...

6. Getting excited about a friend's cookbook coming out in April--about her late husband's part of the world, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy (damaged by an earthquake in April '09). One thing I love is the format; instead of Antipasti, Salads, Meats, etc., it's organized as a week-long festival of recipes. Each day has a complete menu. Here's hoping there's a launch party with eats. smileys/smile.gif

Notice none of us in CA replied, because...well, it rained here...

and, well...I sneezed. Ok, maybe it wasn't me that sneezed but I'm sure someone in CA did.

To better explain this I've linked to a blog post (Note: language/etc alert) I'd read about rain here in CA. Actually, it's regarding rain in So. CA, which is much more death defying than here in the north. Oh sure we get our headline story of - we have rain. But in LA it's a breaking news story --I have seen them break into the middle of a TV show with...we are hearing reports of...hang on people...it could rain, we think it might rain, or worse...O-M-G...get your children, hunker down, get indoors: it-is-RAINING!!!!!!

Ok, Cheezz replied but she's there...in the thick of it, just trying to survive.

PS -- Seriously though, must say brrr to everyone in the snow, but that sure is a pretty picture! Thanks for sharing it. smileys/smile.gif

My weekend six

1. Went down to Virginia to spend the weekend with my dad. He is getting remarried and moving to Santa Fe so is downsizing the house. Lots of boxes.

2. Dad put together a not-very-good dinner of store-roasted chicken, fake gravy, mashed potatoes (made with white potatoes), frozen broccoli. He's a terrible cook, but is trying so hard...sigh.

3. Wonderful raisin and apricot bread from a grocery store called Bloom. Fabulous toasted.

4. Had an okay lunch of Middle Eastern food. It was a buffet, so I'm not quite sure what I had; most was fine. FABULOUS caramel flan for dessert. I need to learn how to make that.

5. Had a wonderful dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant called The Four Sisters in Falls Church. Spring rolls, shrimp toast, ginger chicken in a clay pot, an eggplant dish--just lovely, and a seafood dish. More caramel flan for dessert (although this wasn't as good).

6. Back home: no food in the fridge--must go shopping!

Ooh, gazpacho-style. Love it. I really enjoy the concentration of flavors from roasting. YUM!

Hey chicka! Nice to hear from you...

You all got hammered with snow and cold this year, eh? While it's unseasonably warm here in Seattle (50 degrees), I can't stand the darkness. Woke up this AM at 6:30 with a full moon still aglow. Ooof! (Saw some early crocus in bloom the other day. Sign of spring?)

Can't wait to hear more about your friend's book. I love books that give a sense of place, a bit of history and learning about the traditional foods of festivals sounds right up my alley!
