Weird question about yesterday. One of the couples we invited had just

No, you're the perfect guest because the only real requirement of a guest is to have a good time,

and perhaps to humor the control freak host.

I would love a gift of wine like that because you chose it for the fun of it. And because blue bottles make great vases later.

Actually it says "!yaw YM ti od ll'ew ,oN." Never tattoo your own forehead in a mirror!

Sometimes I take doing things myself a bit too far.

This made me BURST out loud laughing. It truly made my day and

then I noticed......Randi Rhodes? You've sealed my admiration forever!

The full quote is...............

"It only takes five seconds to tell the truth. Why'dya think my show needs so much fillah?!"

I'm glad I made you laugh.

Just kidding...I will take a wicker basket with 5-6 different herbs and/or flowers in 4" pots...

surrounded with moss. The flowers add a nice splash of color.

I'm seeing a difference between the LA lifestyle and the farming/pioneering lifestyle. I'm from the

Midwest and there,it's very common to pitch in and help. Part of the culture. I suppose when you may need to be dug out of the snow or shuck 50 pounds of ripe and ready corn, it's based on the mentality that you may actually need your neighbors one day...We're all equal and give/do what we can.

I used to work with folks in Alaska and got the sense that it's a similar culture. He has salmon, the neighbor brought some mussels...we'll throw them in the pot together.

The idea that one person provides everything and my contribution is not only unnecessary...but unwelcome is astonishing to me.

Traca, your contribution would always be welcome at my party, just not your money..

As for potluck vs. control freak it's not really an LA thing, in fact people are mostly pretty casual down here, and when guests offer to bring things I usually say, "sure."

But once in a while, for special occasions, I want to plan a menu start to finish, considering each dish in relation to the whole. Like the wedding you just did--working on the menu ahead of time and planning out the execution and presentation--it's a creative expression. For those times I tell people the food is all taken care of, how about some wine?
